Kanye West New Album 2014: Rick Rubin to Work on 'Bound 2' Star's Upcoming Album
During a recent interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, Rick Rubin confirmed that he is working on Kanye West's highly-anticipated seventh studio album.
NME reported: "Rubin previously helped produce the 2013 album 'Yeezus' and confirmed that recording on a follow up has begun while chatting to BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe as part of a special interview, which will be broadcast in four parts (Monday [through] Thursday) next week."
The renowned producer applauded the Chicago emcee's creativity. "I love him, I think he's a great guy, super smart and from a creative standpoint," he said. "I can't think of anyone who has been more consistently great from the time they started making music until now ... I think he's the most consistently great creative person in music today."
Rubin then recalled the first time he heard the demos for West's last album. "There were loads of great ideas and there were many, many tracks and we listened to everything together," he said. "He originally came over and said 'I wanna come play you my new album,' and I thought we'd be listening to a finished album. Then we listened to about three hours of music, most of which didn't have vocals, and at the end I was like 'wow, so what's it gonna be?' I'm thinking it's a year away and he was like 'well, I'm putting it out in like 5-6 weeks."
"It was just a funny conversation because it was completely normal to him, it's just the way he works," he added. "Today, Kanye West is coming in and we're starting to look at vocal ideas for things for the next album."
In addition, Billboard previously named many other collaborators contributing to the forthcoming 12-track album, which was recorded in Los Angeles, California and Florence, Italy. The mixture of soul and the lighter version of "Yeezus" will feature James Fauntleroy, Gee Roberson, Mike WiLL Made It, Malik Yusef, French Montana, Young Thug, Da Internz, Young Chop, James Blake, Symbolic One (S1), Evian Christ, 808 Mafia, DJ Mustard and Tyga.
