When you buy a house, you also buy several furniture including a bed for each room. Your master bedroom has a bed of your choice. Senior citizens should get proper care and treatment because they are at an age where they need support and care. You provide them with all the facilities near their bed so that they don't have to exert themselves. Another thing that plays a vital role is the mattress that you select for every individual. 

By now, after seeing so many advertisements on television, one thing that you've understood is that all mattresses aren't meant for every individual. If you need a firm mattress that doesn't mean your parents would need the same. You might adjust after a few months with a sagging bed, but you can't expect the same from your grandparents. They are at a phase where little negligence can create a lot of trouble for the entire family.  

If you are so careful with your parents and grandparents that's because you know they've grown old but don't forget about your kids who are still growing. A wrong mattress can damage their spine alignment which can be a pain of lifetime. Arthritis, osteoporosis, neck and back ache are certain problems that occur when your body is at a growing stage.  

Why do you think kids are asked to play outdoor games instead of lying on the couch and playing video games? This is because doctors recommend physical activity to maintain their health and increase immunity. Increased level of physical activity keeps their body fit and their bones strong. 

If they lie on the wrong mattress that either has lumps or bends in certain places then their spine alignment is crooked. Here are some sleeping tips for your youngster -

  • Make them understand from childhood the significance of sleep in life. You can also start a schedule where everyone in the family goes to bed early, including you as well because teenagers often try to copy their parents. 

  • Increase sports activities in their life instead of video games because outdoor games will tire them and bring them to bed sooner. In case they wake up early next day, avoid afternoon long naps because then they will stay awake late night again. 

  • Every teenager needs at least eight to nine hours of rest in a day. Hence, you need to calculate accordingly, if your kid needs to wake up at 7am next morning, then he or she should revise their bed time at 10pm at night. 

  • You can keep heavy curtains in your kid's room which will keep their room dark at night and there will not be any light obstructing their sleep, but ensure in the morning that these curtains are drawn away from windows so that broad daylight hits their eyes. This triggers their brain that it is time to wake up and that's how their sleep is disturbed. 

  • There are teenagers who feel sleepy in the afternoon. In that time, you can arrange interactive classes for them to keep them awake rather than joining lecture classes or asking them to drive while feeling sleepy. 

  • Avoid taking caffeine after lunch because it acts as a stimulant which keeps you energetic throughout the day but the moment its effect reduces, you will feel extremely lethargic. 

  • Some teenagers prefer to study late at night, everyone has their own habit that they cannot change. It might be good for a certain time, but after a few days your brain power drains out leaving you nowhere. 

One thing that needs everyone's attention is that our life is now surrounded with the latest technologies and we are all dependent on it. Ever since we have started promoting a paperless environment, people are getting engrossed in electronic gadgets. Apart from that, for awareness, we are also using television, computer, tablet which are accessed with the assistance of Wi-Fi. All these machines emit radioactive signals that affect our brain and body. 

Even electronic gadgets emit blue rays which triggers melatonin present in our brain. This melatonin plays a vital role in giving signal to our brain for our next action. If melatonin is triggered, then our brain is signaled to stay active else, it goes to rest which is why we sleep. When your kids or teenagers' access electronic gadgets for long, they are keeping their brain alert. This is the main reason why most kids are unable to sleep till late at night. 

If you can balance their routine of using gadgets, then their life can be back on track. It is too difficult to keep all gadgets away from your kids at a tender age. However, you will also have to participate in this activity where all electronic gadgets should be switched off an hour before sleeping. Other activities like talking, reading books or novels should be added in their life. Even if you keep gadgets besides their bed they will always be anxious to peep in once to see notifications and that's where all the problems start. Hence, keep all of them turned off or silent when your child is asleep. 

Since you are concerned about your child's sleep, we want you to pay attention to their mattress as well. Here are few things to consider in their mattress -

  • Decide on an innerspring bedding if your child hasn't undergone any surgery, injury or doesn't have any shoulder or back pain. Innerspring mattresses have pocketed coils that keep it firm and your spine in proper alignment which is necessary at a growing age, also the pocketed coils circulate air within which keeps the mattress cool. 

  • If your kid participates in sports, then you should get a latex foam mattress that has additional layers of foam. A simple latex mattress is a discomfort as it puts strain on head, neck, shoulder and pain giving tremendous pain to your kid. 

  • Water bed is only for those kids who want very soft firmness and more water waves. Not all kids are able to sleep on waterbeds so this can be a tough choice for you as well. 

  • Always buy a mattress that's durable because your teen will need something that lasts long. Once your kid leaves for college, then you can use it for a guest room. 

  • Always buy one size bigger than what you have calculated. Your teen is at a growing age and surely you don't plan to buy another expensive mattress in the next two years. 

You may compromise on other things in life, but when it is about your kid, you want to give the best. Give them good sleep and good life by providing a proper space to relax at home. Always remember, don't let your child drive if he or she hasn't had their proper hours of sleep.
