"There is no way I resign." This is New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo's response amid calls from the New York legislature's call for his resignation. Independent Tribune reported that the top two Democrats in the New York legislature withdrew their support to the governor, due to factors that are clouding the head of state.

Andrew Cuomo on Factors of Resignation

Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins is the first senior Democrat in the state to call for Cuomo's resignation. Bloomberg noted in MSN that Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, also a Democrat, called for the governor's resignation because of the allegations the governor has gotten into. This contradicts their original plan to wait for the investigation and reserve judgment on the governor whether he needs to step down from his post.

Andrew Cuomo was reported by her female associate due to allegedly inappropriate behavior the governor has shown them and the uncomfortable atmosphere whenever they are reporting for duty. The coming out of the associates sharing that the governor made them feel violated surprised some of the authorities, and look at the situation in an alarming state.

Bloomberg mentioned Stewart-Cousins saying "For the good of the State, Governor Cuomo must resign" noting that the state is still amid the pandemic and is still facing the effects of the toll of the pandemic in domains like society, economy, and health of their constituents. Leading the state without distraction should be a priority, according to Stewart-Cousins.

"It is the time for the governor to seriously consider whether he can effectively meet the needs of the people of New York," the legislator said.

Another factor why he is forced to resign is his alteration of reports of COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes. Reuters shared that 6,432 COVID-related in nursing homess were reported by the state health officials in July. The data is much lower than the more than 9,000 actual deaths in nursing homes. Allegedly, Cuomo's Senior Aids did not want to make that public so they stirred state health officials to publish the July report.

Andrew Cuomo won't resign

Independent Tribune noted that the majority leader's public push for Cuomo's resignation came after a Sunday Press conference where the governor noted that he's stepping down will be anti-democratic. However, the governor of New York does not want to give up his post just like what the top Democrats wanted him to do. He noted that he will not resign because the people of the state have mounted him in the office and not by the politicians.

Moreover, Bloomberg noted in MSN that Cuomo has defended himself in the allegation of sexual harassment because he often has this friendly banter and he never meant those women feel uncomfortable.

Independent Tribune noted that the state attorney general is in the process of investigation on the women that publicly share their feeling of being violated, Yet, Andre Cuomo urged the people to wait for the conclusion of the investigation before they judge him and ask him of his resignation.
