California Governor Gavin Newsom Labels Recall Movement Against Him Racist
California Governor Gavin Newsom slammed the recall filed against him, claiming that the motives are racist. Newsom faces recall possibilities due to his response to the coronavirus pandemic in California.
It can be recalled that Newsom also received backlash when he posted a video on his Tik Tok account that he and a celebrity are inside a restaurant. The restaurant in the video was reported to be not allowing people to dine in. Newsom apologized and vowed to be more mindful of his actions. However, his response to the coronavirus pandemic is not the sole reason why California authorities are pushing for his recall.

Gavin Newsom and "racist motives" on recall
Fox News mentioned Newsom saying that immigration is another issue why his recall is being pushed.
The petition for his recall read, "Laws he endorsed favor foreign nationals, in our country illegally, over that of our own citizens."
Newsom spoke with the press at an elementary school in Alameda County, California. He furthered the authors of his recall are afraid of California becoming less white under his regime.
Newsom added that his fight for his seat as the California governor is rooted within values saying, "I'm not just fighting for me, I'm fighting for you."
The Guardian noted that organizers of the recall will have to meet the deadline scheduled for Wednesday. The organizers would have to collect a total of 1.5 million signatures to put the election on the ballot. However, more than two million people have already signed the petition.
ABC News shared that once the signature threshold is reached, voters will decide whether to recall the current governor of California. Then, if the people voted yes, they would pick from a roster of candidates that will replace him in his post.
Newsom accepts that his removal on the post is based on voting. "The reality is it looks like it's got on the ballot," Newsom said as he exclaims that he is prepared for the voting. Newsom also argued that the petition of his removal is backed by alt conspiracy theorists and supporters of former President Donald Trump.
Gavin Newsom fights his recall
Although worried, Newsom noted that he will still fight his recall for the constituents of California. Newsom noted that the proponents of the recall campaign focus less on him and attack "California and our values, Democratic values."
California is one of the 19 states that permit their voters to remove elected officials before their term expires. The voters only need signatures from the 12% of the total voters of the previous election to arrange a recall movement. However, based on California's history, recalls are never successful.
"I'm gonna fight for this thing because I'm gonna fight for California's values and the things I hold dear," said Newsom.
Amid the recall movement for Governor Gavin Newsom, two Republicans have announced their candidacies. Kevin Faulconer and John Cox from the Republican party will fight Newsom in his post as California Governor.
