An argument over a stimulus check led to four people's deaths. A 25-year-old man shot the mother of his child and four of her relatives after he allegedly demanded to get half of a $1,400 stimulus check.

A day before Malik Halfacre allegedly shot his baby's mother, Jeanettrius Moore, and her family, he demanded to get the half from Moore. Moore worked all year at a beauty shop to provide for her two children, while Halfacre did nothing to help, according to a Crime Online report.

"He wanted some of Jeanettrius' tax money, stimulus money," Wendy Johnson, a cousin, told Fox59.

Moore offered Halfacre $450 out of the check. However, the suspect refused and demanded that he get half, according to family members. Halfacre allegedly said that he is going to get that money.

Moore was outside near her car on Saturday, while Halfacre reportedly spotted her and gave her a dirty look before walking away.

Johnson said that Moore told her that the suspect gave her an evil look and walked off. However, Halfacre came back to their Indianapolis home, and he started rummaging inside Moore's purse and demanded money.

The Shooting

Johnson said Daquan Moore entered the scene to save his sister and told Halfacre that he could not have Moore's money.

"That's what she said and pushed Malik, and Malik pulled out the gun and just started killing everybody," Johnson said, as reported by Fox59. 

Johnson said Halfacre shot Daquan first and then shot Moore's cousin, Anthony Johnson. Halfacre then proceeded to shoot Moore's mother, Tomeeka Brown.

Somewhere between the commotion, Moore's daughter, Eve, got hit, and the seven-year-old kid started screaming.

Johnson said that Halfacare took his six-month-old daughter, Malia, to the car and strapped the child into a safety seat. Then, he entered the house again and retrieved the milk bottle.

Moore hid on a neighbor's porch until police officers arrived as Halfacre drove away with their child. Their baby daughter was eventually found at a home in the city's northeast area early Sunday. She was unharmed.

Halfacre was arrested after a four-hour-long SWAT standoff as he barricaded himself inside of a duplex. He is being held without bail Tuesday over initial charges of murder, robbery, and attempted murder, according to a New York Post report.

Halfacre was accused of shooting a man five times on the city's northwest side in early 2017. However, he was released from custody in 2018 after pleading guilty to a lesser charge.

Lorenzo Moore said his sister was afraid of the suspect, who always carries a gun with him. Relatives said Moore, who was initially listed in critical condition, was released from a hospital on Monday. But her daughter, Eve; her 23-year-old brother, Daquan; her 44-year-old mother, Tomeeka; and her 35-year-old cousin, Anthony, did not make it.

Stimulus Check

On Saturday, the federal government announced that workers and families eligible could receive their stimulus checks starting the previous weekend after President Joe Biden signed the $1.9 trillion plan into law.

The third round of stimulus checks amounts to $1,400 to every individual earning up to $75,000 and couples earning up to $150,000. A typical family of four is set to receive $5,600.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will send payments directly to everyone who filed for a tax return this year or last year, AFP News reported.
