Daddy Yankee Wins Big at 2021 ASCAP Latin Music Awards
Daddy Yankee was named the songwriter of the year in this year's ASCAP Latin Music Awards. He was able to bag the songwriter of the year award for the third time.
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has announced the 2021 winners of the ASCAP Latin Music Awards on Monday night.
Daddy Yankee's latest ASCAP recognition followed his 2019 and 2017 wins in the same category. According to a PR Newswire report, Daddy Yankee has a total of 42 ASCAP Latin Music Awards.

Daddy Yankee
With expertise in the reggaeton genre, Billboard noted that Daddy Yankee had a promising year with many collaborations from different artists. Daddy Yankee has already worked with artists like Sech, Play-N-Skillz, Zion and Lennox, Kendo Kaponi, and Anuel AA.
Daddy Yankee is a global music icon known to be the "King of Reggaeton." The Puerto Rican singer was able to sell 30 million records since his international hit single "Gasolina" dropped in the radio waves and television. Gasolina also made reggaeton a hit genre.
Daddy Yankee closed the year 2020 with Marc Anthony assisting in the salsa song called "De Vuelta Pa' La Vuelta." The song secured the sixth spot in the Hot Latin Songs chart as of December 26, 2020.
Yankee's current single "Problema" debuted at number nine on the chart as of Mar. 13. Because of this, Daddy Yankee earned him his top 10 on the list about 36 times in terms of airplay, digitals sales, and streams.
Other ASCAP Winners
The song "Tusa," written by Keityn and Juan Camilo Vargas Vásquez, bagged the song of the year award. The song, a collaboration between Karol G and Nicki Minaj, was deemed the first song by two female artists to debut at number one on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs.
Sony Music Publishing bagged the publisher of the year award for releasing top songs like "Cabellero," "Tusa," and "La Santa."
"We are so thrilled to honor your amazing achievements of the past year at our El Premio ASCAP - our annual Latin Music Awards. Once again we will come together in spirit and solidarity," said ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams, who introduced the roll out of the winners, as Variety reported.
Williams also congratulated all of this year's winners "for their incredible musical achievements."
The event kicked off Monday night with a virtual pre-concert hosted by Colombian singer and songwriter Farina, and it featured performances from winners Danny Ocean, Elena Rose, and Vibarco.
In the coming days, the event would feature special performances and appearances from Latin music superstars Marc Anthony, Jhay Cortez, Farruko, Génesis 'Nesi' Rios, Nio Garcia, Tempo, and more.
The ASCAP Latin Music Awards would be presented until March 25 in Spanish and English via @ASCAPLatino and @ASCAP on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
