Former Lakers star Earvin "Magic" Johnson, actor Danny Trejo, and former talk-show host Arsenio Hall received their COVID-19 vaccines at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Emphasizing the importance of the COVID-19 vaccines, Magic Johnson, Danny Trejo, and Arsenio Hall encouraged people in Los Angeles to join them and get vaccinated, CBS Los Angeles reported.

The three Los Angeles icons received different types of COVID vaccines in their arms. Magic Johnson got his first shot of the Pfizer vaccine, while Danny Trejo got the first dose of the Moderna vaccine.

Arsenio Hall, on the other hand, received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Magic Johnson, Danny Trejo, and the Vaccines

The vaccination of the three celebrities took place at a city-run site at USC's University Park campus. Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas administered the vaccine to the three celebrities, according to a Fox 11 report.

"I am so happy to be here with Danny and my 40-year friend Arsenio Hall to take this vaccination because it's so important," said the NBA Hall of Famer.

Magic Johnson said he wanted some peace of mind after a year of adhering to safety protocols such as handwashing and mask-wearing. He added that he had been taking a COVID-19 test "like every two weeks."

The Daily Mail reported that Magic Johnson also expressed his gratitude to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti "for making sure there are vaccination stations all over the city and especially in African American and Latino communities!"

Danny Trejo said people should get a vaccine for their loved ones. 

'I'm so proud to take this shot... If you don't take it for yourself, take it for your family because I want to keep my kids safe," the Mexican-American actor said.

On the other hand, Arsenio Hall said he trusts the scientists more than he trusts his "mother's cooking." He thanked Magic Johnson for inviting him to get a vaccine.

 "We got to do this because we got to get back to normal," said Arsenio Hall, adding that the vaccination is the only way to achieve normalcy.

Los Angeles' Vaccine Rollout

It can be remembered that there are already three COVID-19 vaccine brands included in the vaccine rollout of the federal government. COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson are available to eligible Americans.

"Recent data has shown that 4% of L.A. residents have been vaccinated," said USC President Carol Folt. However, Folt noted that 18 or 16 percent of the COVID-19 patients are coming from South L.A.

Officials have noted that the site, where Magic Johnson, Danny Trejo, and Arsenio Hall have been vaccinated, have the capacity to vaccinate up to 5,000 people a day. Garcetti noted that the site is specifically posted near the Expo Park Metro Station for easier access.
