Republican Senator Says Border Crisis Could Be Solved if Trump Immigration Policies Reinstated
Republican Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana said that the southern border crisis could be fixed if President Joe Biden were to reestablish the immigration policies from the Trump administration.
Biden earlier signed a series of executive orders unraveling the immigration policies that former President Donald Trump had imposed during his term.
"Those policies have undermined the safety of our communities, penalized asylum seekers fleeing violence, and destabilized security across the Western hemisphere," the document read when Biden signed the order, as reported by Western Journal.
Meanwhile, border agents are becoming overwhelmed with the growing number of migrants crossing the border ever since Biden took office.
Kennedy said Biden must listen to Border Patrol agents and go back to what they were doing before he took office, according to a Fox News report.
Kennedy currently sits on the Senate Judiciary and Budget Committees.
"All we have to do is go back to what we were doing before ... President Biden undid everything that the Republican Congress and the Trump administration did," Kennedy was quoted in a report.
He predicted the crisis would be fixed in a week.

Border Crisis
Trump has blamed the current administration for the border crisis at the southern border, saying that migrants are coming in from all foreign countries.
"It's a disgrace," Trump was quoted in a USA Today report.
Several Republicans echoed Trump's sentiments after they visited the southern border led by Sen. Ted Cruz.
Border Patrol Agents noted a rise in the number of migrants being apprehended, with 4,200 unaccompanied migrant children being held in short-term holding facilities.
Under the law, the children should have been released to their relatives or sponsors within 72 hours. However, the government has been having problems doing so as the government struggles to find families and sponsors to care for them.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has limited media access at the southern border, as well as nonprofit lawyers conducting oversight, according to an Associated Press report.
Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar has released photos from inside the facilities in Donna and El Paso, Texas, with the aim of drawing attention to the extreme challenges that border agents face in watching so many detained children.
Cuellar earlier said that the government should be taking care of those kids like they are their own kids.
Meanwhile, Biden said he is not making an apology for ending the Trump-era policies, noting it is a violation of international law and "human dignity," according to a Dallas News report.
He added that a more humane approach had been deterred due to Trump's immigration system.
Biden noted that Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas is set to provide 5,000 beds.
The Department of Homeland Security reported last week that illegal crossings are rising to their highest level in two decades.
Mark Morgan, former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Trump administration, said that the Biden administration has inherited a system that worked, according to a Daily Signal report.
