A bus accident in Mexico killed 16 people, while 14 people were injured due to the collision. According to AZ Central, the accident happened at around 3:36 a.m. Tuesday in the south of the Arizona-Mexico border, specifically near the entrance of the Noche Buena Mine.

The Latest Bus Accident in Mexico 

Mexico News Daily reported that a bus carrying mine workers and a van carrying tourists had crashed head-on at kilometer 156 of the Caborca-Sonoyta highway. Images of the crash site showed that the two vehicles had obstructed the two-lane road following the tragic incident.

The Sonora Attorney General's Office said that all of the 16 passengers traveling in the van died on the scene, while the 14 people inside the bus were rushed to hospitals in Caborca.

Mining company Minera Penmont confirmed that 13 injured workers were already in stable condition, but the bus driver was in critical condition.

According to Associated Press, the tourist van, which reportedly belongs to the Transportes Ejecutivos Premiere, appeared to bear the worst of the damage. The 16 people inside the tourist van were all Mexican citizens, and three were men.

"As soon as the accident was known the emergency services were notified," said Minera Penmont in a release. Minera Penmont added that their company regrets the tragic accident. The company further noted that they are in "constant communication" with the local authorities who facilitate the investigations.

The survivors of the bus accident were hospitalized due to major fractures and bruises. Forensic staff was already tasked with inspecting the two vehicles following the crash. 

The British-Mexican firm Fresnillo plc. owned and operated the Noche Buena gold mine through Minera Penmont. According to the company's website, the firm had been operating the gold mine since 2012.

Another Bus Accident in Mexico 

On a different day, another bus accident took place in Mexico, killing seven and injuring a total of four people. The March 29 bus accident stemmed from the bus driver who lost control of the vehicle on a highway near the state of Acambay in Mexico.

The bus is owned by Omex VIP company, and the accident occurred on the Aculco-Acambay highway near the Dongu community. The bus was on its way to Toluca from Saltillo. 

Authorities confirmed that some of the victims were thrown out of the bus windows and into the ditch. Reports also noted that other victims were trampled underneath the bus because they rolled over into the ditch on the bus side.

Initial reports noted that about 30 people were on board when the bus accident took place. However, it was changed to only 11 passengers and two drivers involved in the accident.

Four surviving passengers from the bus accident were transported to a hospital in Acambay to treat serious injuries.
