A Denver Police Department law enforcement officer, Daniel Osman, will be facing a 10-day suspension for inappropriate conduct directed toward a 17-year-old girl.

Osman is in his fifties and currently facing a suspension on dates of April 18, April 22, and May 2.

He was said to have engaged in inappropriate conduct, which was "prejudicial" to the police department, according to a Law & Crime report.

The behavior was said to have started when Osman responded to an alleged theft at a famous footwear shoe store, according to investigators.

The 17-year-old girl was working there as a sales associate.

Osman was said to have looked at her Facebook profile and told her, "this is a perfect girl for me."

Inappropriate Conduct

The teenager told investigators that Osman discussed with her how he was going through a divorce while at lunch.

The girl added that Osman said, "I prefer Latinas with brown eyes, brown hair." The girl said it could have been directed to her.

The store manager also told investigators that she remembered her employee saying Osman told her that they could just get to know each other and could "develop something later."

The 17-year-old girl also said that Osman showed her a picture of his daughter, who was between 19 and 21 of age.

The teenager then inquired Osman, asking if his daughter was older than her, which Osman allegedly answered "not that older," according to a KDVR report.

Meanwhile, no charges have been filed against Osman as there is no evidence to reports that suggest any physical contact between the teen and Osman.

Osman also denied any wrongdoing but noted that it looked bad for him to have that kind of interaction with a 17-year-old girl.

The police veteran also said that other officers of his district had begun teasing him and calling names such as "rapist" and "pedophile."

Meanwhile, the officer said he never tried to meet with the girl again after their lunch at Chipotle. Records have also shown that the texts between the two seemed to have stopped on July 3.

However, a disciplinary letter noted that Osman knew the subject was only 17 years old and continued to exchange text messages and bringing coffee or energy drinks to the store.

"The over-sharing of his personal life with a young woman the age of one of his own daughters is at best inappropriate and at worst, evidence of an attempt to pursue more than a work-based friendship," the letter stated.

Some states, including Colorado, do not specifically define the term "age of consent" in statue. However, the law will overall establish the age at which it is illegal to have sexual relations with a person.

Based on Colorado law, the agent of consent is 17. Colorado does not criminalize consensual sex when both parties are 17-years-old or older, according to its legal guide.

There is also a close-in-age exemption, according to its age of consent law. This states that 15- and 16-years-old can engage in sexual behavior.
