California Teacher Caught Berating Students on Zoom Over Their Parents' Push to Stop Distance Learning
A video of a California high school teacher scolding her students in a Zoom class was shared by a parent online.
According to a Fox News report, the teacher was berating her students in a loud voice due to the parents' collective push for school reopening and ending the remote learning.
It can be remembered that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued guidelines for safely reopening schools. The agency emphasized that if a school can abide by their safety protocols or guidelines like implementing layered prevention against COVID-19 and considering the community transmission.

California Teacher Recorded
The teacher recorded in the Zoom call was identified as Alissa Piro, a San Marcos High School teacher.
Alissa Piro seemed to be referencing an ongoing lawsuit from a coalition of parents against California Governor Gavin Newsom and six North Country school districts working to ease COVID-19 restrictions to return to in-person learning.
Many parents also wanted their children to return to physical classrooms, but local unions noted that doing so would account for judicial overreach.
The video was reportedly filmed by a student's family member and posted to a private Facebook group that pushes to reopen the schools in their district.
Reopen California Schools, a movement geared towards the full reopening of schools in the state also posted the video on its Twitter account.
The group noted that teachers berating students over a Zoom call is a "common occurrence."
A mother of Piro's student, who filmed the video, reported the incident to the school principal several weeks ago. However, the issue was unaddressed. The principal was identified as Adam Dawson.
"These rants were so often my child said," said the parent who shared the video. The parent pointed out that if the school district shrugs off the issue, then "they [school district] are just as responsible."
The video stirred different opinions from netizens. A Twitter user described the incident as outrageous but shared the same sympathy, noting that their daughter's teacher also reprimanded the whole class over Zoom. Another user simply asked does Piro was supposed to be teaching when she was scolding her students.
California Teacher Scolding her Students
Apart from Piro's retaliation about school reopening, the California teacher also addressed the issue of parents questioning her as a teacher.
"Just dare them to come at me," said Piro challenging the parents of her students who are questioning her skills in distance learning and addressing the needs of her students as an individual.
Alissa Piro also emphasized that she is tired of parents educating teachers "how to do their job."
"I have never once gone into a doctor's appointment and try to tell my medical health provider how to treat me. You know why? Because I know nothing about that," Piro said in the recorded video.
Fox News noted that the mother, who brought the videos to the school principal's attention, described the teacher as a bully. The mother added that she felt awful for not standing up for Piro's students sooner.
The mother who recorded the Zoom call of the California teacher said it took her three months before sharing it on social media. She noted that she decided to share it when she saw her behavior "was continuing this term."
