Dakota Elder, who grew up in the small Utah town of Smithfield, was confronted with a harsh reality after the death of his father. Dakota was never one to be outgoing in high school because he felt obligated to look after his father. He knew he wanted to open up and have people help him until he was in his twenties.

Dakota was chosen to compete on American Ninja Warrior when he was 21 years old, and he made it through the first round.
