LAPD Police and a Suspect For Breaking Into His Private Vehicle Engage In Shooting
An unidentified man and an officer from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) sustained injuries after engaging in a shootout that stemmed from an altercation. The said officer was reported to be off-duty when he was shot multiple times by a suspect who broke into his private vehicle in the parking lot of the officer's apartment, Fox 11 reported.
The officer who engaged in the fight is also yet to be identified. Both the police and the suspect were brought to a hospital in stable condition. Authorities noted that both men are expected to survive, Associated Press reported.

The shootout between the LAPD Officer and the unidentified man
The gunbattle sparked from an altercation between the police and the suspect in the parking area of Sherman Oaks apartment complex on Wednesday, ABC 7 reported. Authorities noted that the incident happened shortly before 2:30 in the afternoon at the 5200 block of Vesper Avenue.
Police from the Los Angeles Department surrounded the building after the shooting incident occurred.
Meanwhile, authorities identified that the off-duty police was with a female friend when the shooting happened. The woman was not injured.
Los Angeles police Officer William Cooper told Los Angeles Daily News that the officers discovered the body of the police involved in the shootout lying with multiple gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, the suspect was found injured in the breezeway while tossing a firearm magazine from the officer's gun over a fence.
Shooting Stemmed Out From Altercation
The gun that was used by the suspect in the shootout was owned by the LAPD cop.
The suspect was first seen by the off-duty police officer inside his private vehicle when he and his female friend headed to the locked parking garage under the building of the apartment.
Moore noted that the suspect broke inside the private vehicle of the officer, granting him access to the gun inside the duty bag of the police. Moore added that the suspect was wearing the officer's bulletproof vest when he was spotted.
The officer was reported to confront the suspect for breaking inside his vehicle. That was when the altercation between the two ensued, which resulted in the exchange of bullets between the suspect and the LAPD officer.
Moore furthered that the police utilized his backup firearm during the shootout. Meanwhile, the suspect used the primary weapon of the officer. The chief also pointed out that the shooting started in the parking area of the apartment complex. Eventually, the suspect and the officer moved to the street.
The officer secured his bulletproof vest and gun from the suspect when the latter sustained a shot.
"Our expectation of our personnel is that they lock and secure, that they make every reasonable effort to ensure the safety and security of those weapons," said Moore.
The LAPD police caught in the shootout suffered a wound in his upper torso and one in his thigh. The officer immediately underwent surgery, while the suspect is now under the authority's custody.
