Pfizer will begin their shipment of U.S.-made COVID-19 vaccines to Mexico this week. The vaccine shipment that will be delivered to Mexico will be coming from the company's plant in Kalamazoo, Reuters reported. The shipment marks to be the first time the company will deliver abroad vaccines made from the United States.

Pfizer to Ship U.S.-Made Vaccines to Mexico

Mexico already received 10 million vaccine doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. Last Wednesday, Mexico's health ministry has confirmed that the country received more than a million doses from Belgium. Furthermore, the country is also waiting for another million doses this week.

Moreover, the health ministry of the country also confirmed with Reuters that it will receive two million vaccine doses from Pfizer this week. However, the outlet was not able to confirm if the anticipated two million doses will come from Pfizer's plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Pfizer will utilize their facilities in the United States to supply and deliver shots abroad while fulfilling its commitment to supply the country. Apart from the Michigan plant, Pfizer will also supply vaccines from their Belgium branch.

Reuters noted that the company expects to produce as many as 2.5 billion vaccine doses in 2021. Meanwhile, the pharmaceutical giant has already agreements to supply more than a billion vaccine doses.

It can be remembered that Pfizer offers a 95 percent efficacy rate against coronavirus beginning 28 days after the first dose. It was consistent among age, gender, race, and ethnicity demographics. Meanwhile, it is 94 percent effective on adults aging 65 years old and older.

Pfizer Identified Counterfeit Version of their COVID-19 vaccines

Pfizer's shipment of their U.S.-made vaccine to Mexico follows the company's recognition of a counterfeit version of their vaccine jab.

Last week, about 80 people were reported to receive the fake Pfizer vaccine doses in Mexico, Wall Street Journal reported. The outlet pointed out that the individuals who received the fake vaccines are not physically harmed.

The pharmaceutical giant said in a statement, that because of the convenience of buying things online, fraud and counterfeit will be increased.

"Pfizer has extensive experience in criminal risk mitigation and is collaborating with BioNTech to make to take meaningful steps," said Pfizer adding that they will work on reducing the risk of illegal vaccine activity.

In the last 24 hours, the World Health Organization (WHO) recorded 3,592 new COVID cases in Mexico. Meanwhile, 434 new COVID-related deaths were recorded by the organization in the same timeframe. Moreover, As of April 22, 2021, the country vaccinated a total of 11,622,868 doses.

Details on the exact time and day of the U.S.-made Pfizer vaccines shipment to Mexico are not yet available. But because of this, the pharmaceutical giant became the country's largest supplier of COVID-19 vaccine.
