Pres. Joe Biden Scraps Controversial Donald Trump Orders on Race and Culture, Including Plans for a 'National Garden of American Heroes'
President Joe Biden has reversed several executive orders that former President Donald Trump signed during his presidency, including the construction of the "National Garden of American Heroes."
Aside from the sculpture garden of American Heroes, Biden also canceled an order that sought to protect Confederate-era monuments.
The White House announced the move without much statement regarding the matter. The White House noted that Biden had used the "authority" given to him to scrap Donald Trump's orders, New York Daily News reported.
National Garden of American Heroes
President Joe Biden abolished the task force that was earlier mandated to oversee the creation of the national garden, which Trump had proposed last year.
The Trump order, issued on Jan. 18, would have required the federal government to build "a vast outdoor park that will feature the statues of the greatest Americans to ever live."
According to U.S. News, the list spanned to more than 240 figures from history that Trump considered "American Heroes" that include presidents, athletes, inventors, as well as pop culture icons.
Some of the figures included in the list were Albert Einstein, Wright Brothers, Davy Crockett, Billy Graham, Whitney Houston, Harriet Tubman, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Kobe Bryant, and Antonin Scalia, among others.
However, no site was determined for the National Garden of American Heroes, and Congress never funded the proposition. Trump has created the list himself.
Other Canceled Executive Orders
President Joe Biden had also revoked Donald Trump's June 2020 order that sought to prosecute "under federal law" acts of vandalism and destruction of statutes on federal property.
Trump's order came after statues were vandalized, specifically those statues honoring the Confederacy, during nationwide protests over racial injustice after the killing of George Floyd while in police custody last year, Fox 19 Now reported.
Joe Biden also shot down a Donald Trump proclamation that required immigrants to prove that certain health insurance plans would cover them within 30 days of entering the U.S.
Biden said that his administration is set to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare.
The president also squashed executive orders trying to redefine certain categories of white-collar crimes to prevent "overcriminalization" and limit U.S. foreign aid for certain countries.
Biden has also ended Trump's May 2020 order calling for the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice to probe social media companies for removing or labeling posts or entire accounts in what the former president claimed was a restriction on free speech.
President Joe Biden's Another Executive Order
On Wednesday, the White House announced that President Joe Biden had signed an executive order seeking to enhance the nation's cybersecurity and protect federal government networks.
The order came after a couple of attacks undermining the country's cybersecurity strength. These incidents include SolarWinds, Microsoft Exchange, and the Colonial Pipeline.
It is one of the first many ambitious steps that the Biden administration is taking to modernize the nation's cyber defenses, The White House said.
The executive order specifically seeks to remove barriers to threat information sharing between the government and the private sector.
It also aims to modernize and strengthen the cybersecurity stands in the federal government; and improve software supply chain security.
The executive order also mandates the creation of a cybersecurity safety review board, which will be co-chaired by government and private sector officials.
