Plane Lands on Busy California Highway; Makes Emergency Landing on 101 Freeway
A small passenger plane made an emergency landing on the southbound 101 Freeway in Agoura Hills Monday, May 31.
Based on the report of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, they received a call at around 7:00 p.m. regarding a small, single-engine Cessna 150 plane that landed on the 101 Freeway. The agency spokesman shared that it was found just north of Lindero Canyon Road.
Aaron Figueroa, identified dispatcher with the California Highway Patrol, shared that the plane touched down shortly before 7 p.m. local time on U.S. 101 roughly 35 miles north of Los Angeles.
According to KTLA, the Upland Police Department stated that the emergency landing was a result of engine problems. The plane landed safely on the busy California highway, and no major injuries were reported.
Moreover, Upland Police said that the aircraft pilot was treated at the scene after acquiring minor injuries, but he was immediately released. Further information on the number of passengers was not immediately disclosed.
Due to the unexpected landing, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated they closed the southbound lane of the 101 Freeway at the Reyes Adobe off-ramp. The LA County Sheriff's Department said that they eventually pushed off the freeway at Reyes Adobe Road.
A video posted on social media appeared to capture the incident. The plane could be seen driving on the major thoroughfare. During that time, it was surrounded by cars. Another image of it showed that it is on the side of the highway.
The National Transportation Safety Board responded to the scene to do the investigation regarding the emergency landing incident, while the California Highway Patrol was handling the whole incident.
The pilot notified Van Nuys Airport Traffic Control that the aircraft was in trouble and needed to make an emergency landing. At the time, it was not immediately clear what went wrong.
Aside from the National Transportation Safety Board, the landing will be investigated separately by the Federal Aviation Administration, NBC Los Angeles reported.

Emergency Landings
Meanwhile, a small, two-seater plane also made an emergency landing in a field located in San Benito County on Wednesday, May 26. The emergency landing took place around 2:10 p.m, KSBW reported.
Based on the California Highway Patrol Hollister-Gilroy report, the pilot shared with the law enforcement that he started to experience mechanical issues while ascending and had to make the emergency landing.
The pilot landed his aircraft with minor damage to the lower wing, but no injuries were reported, similar to the latest emergency landing incident.
On the other hand, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration reported weeks ago that the pilot of a small single-engine aircraft had reported engine trouble after he took off from an airfield in Mesa, Arizona. The report shows that there was one passenger on board. State troopers immediately surrounded the area using their vehicles in order to keep traffic in line, Stuff reported.
