Father's Day Ryan Gosling Adoption Hoax Causes Frenzy on Facebook
All eyes are on Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, and it's not because of his dashing looks.
E! News reported that on Saturday a Facebook page that was thought to be Ryan Gosling's official Facebook account, shared a picture of the 33-year-old actor laughing and holding a baby.
In addition to the photo, a message was posted as part of a Father's Day hoax to trick Gosling's fans into believing that he had adopted a child.
Part of the message read, "This father's day, I've decided to tell the story of how I became a father. This little guy was only 9 months old when I became his dad. His mom and I were great friends before she passed away from cancer. I promised her I'd always look after him. So, I had decided to step up and become his dad. He brought me so much joy. He was my everything."
What an elaborate hoax.
The Ryan Gosling imposter continued on with the message, explaining that a year after the "adoption," the child's biological father fought to regain custody and won.
Despite only being a father for a year, the imposter went on to encourage fans to support children in need by purchasing an "exclusive limited-edition" T-shirt with the words "Young Wild and Free."
By doing so, fans were bamboozled into believing that the shirt purchase proceeds would go to the Orphanage Home Foundation.
However, E! News reported that the orphanage posted on the fake Facebook page was also a hoax.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Ryan Gosling isn't the only celebrity to fall victim to the fake adoption Facebook hoax.
Apparently, Bradley Cooper also had a similar message posted to his Facebook page, but the message and photo has since been removed.
Though we know now that this was all just a joke, at the time it was posted, the Ryan Gosling adoption news garnered over 936,000 likes and 51,000 shares, E! News reported.
So far, there's been no word on who posted the fake message.
