The holiday weekend of the Fourth of July was plagued with violence in Chicago and shooting among other states.

Chicago has seen at least 90 people shot since the beginning of the long Independence Day weekend, which includes two police officers, a six-year-old girl, her mother, and a group of six people in the Washington Park neighborhood, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Fifteen people out of the at least 90 of those shot died from their injuries.

Recently, a 33-year-old man was critically wounded in the Jeffrey Manor neighborhood, according to the police. The man was in the street when someone opened fire from a passing vehicle.

The victim was shot multiple times and was brought to Advocate Trinity Hospital in critical condition.

Three people were shot in Austin. The gunman was also shot with a concealed carry license holder.

The shooting had left a 45-year-old woman dead and three men wounded.

Shooting In Other States

Meanwhile, in New York, 26 people was shot from Friday through Sunday, with the two victims announced dead, according to a Fox News report.

In Atlanta, a large brawl broke between 50 adolescents, leading to at least one death. Police are still investigating the cause of the fight and death.

Fort Worth, Texas, has also seen a shooting that left eight people injured. Someone fired multiple shots near a car wash, with some of the victims retaliating.

Eight people were left wounded. Police said they were taken to hospitals and are in stable condition.

Police in Milwaukee has also started an investigation on multiple shootings that occurred on Sunday, which resulted in several injuries and at least one death.

Violence In Chicago

Holiday weekends are usually a topic of concern in Chicago. Members of Chicago's City Council planned and asked superintendent David Brown for six hours on July 2 about the police's strategies should violence ensued, according to an NDTV report.

Despite the said meeting, the state has seen an uptick in gun violence. Children were also affected during the shootings, with a five-year-old girl and four other children shot over the weekend on separate occasions.

Brown said that someone else is being targeted and the unintended target, which is an innocent child, is struck.

Mothers and grandmothers in Austin went on a hunger strike and slept in a tent in a parking lot of an abandoned bank during Independence Day as a way to condemn the gun violence in the state.

The first three months of 2021 had experienced 131 killings. The new numbers have achieved a record-high since 2017 when at least 140 people were killed in the first quarter of the year.

The 131 killings in 2021 is a peak of about 34 percent over the same period last year, according to another Chicago Tribune report.

Those killed by gunfire also continued to increase, with 706 through March 2021, which is a 43 percent increase over the year-earlier period.

The statistics show that this year's shooting record is the highest in Chicago since 709 were shot through March 2017.
