California: Radio Host Larry Elder Announces Candidacy for Recall Elections
Radio host Larry Elder announced his candidacy as California nears the scheduled September 14 recall elections for Governor Gavin Newsom. New York Post reported that Elder announced his entrance in the roster of the state's gubernatorial candidates on Monday.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Elder noted that he was encouraged by his supporters to run for the post. Among those was his fellow conservative radio host Dennis Prager. Elder noted that he was reluctant to run for the post in a state where Democrats hold a "lopsided" grip on power in Sacramento.

Larry Elder Enters California Recall Elections
Elder noted that his driving force in running as a gubernatorial candidate comes from the state's homeless crisis, surging crime rates, and the power and water shortages in the areas.
"Our streets aren't safe from rising violent crime or the disaster of rising homelessness," Elder said in a statement, saying "we've got to save the state." Elder also emphasized that the decline of California is not the fault of its residents, arguing that their government is what's "destroying the Golden State.
Elder also labeled his decision to run as a "long shot," as he acknowledged Governor Newsom's ability to raise funds. However, he was determined to find out if he can do something "to move the needle in the right direction."
"I have common sense. I have a good judgment," Elder said, claiming that he was born and raised in California. "I think I understand the state," the newest gubernatorial candidate added.
Associated Press mentioned that Elder's biography in his radio show described him as someone who was "unafraid to take on liberals and the Black Lives Matter movement." Furthermore, he is also an advocate for school choice programs.
Apart from announcing his candidacy, the newest gubernatorial candidate also retaliated on Governor Newsom's campaign narrative, claiming that the recall effort is "led by Trump White Nationalists."
"Do I look like a White Nationalist?" Elder, who is Black, said.
Elder's campaign would officially start on Tuesday after filing for the official paperwork. Meanwhile, individuals will be given until Thursday to enter the roster of gubernatorial candidates.
Other Gubernatorial Candidates in California Recall Elections
Elder's announcement of candidacy added him to the roster of 70 gubernatorial candidates who will battle for Governor Gavin Newsom's post. Among the famous candidates who will be Elder's opponent on the recall election would be businessman John Cox, Representative Doug Ose, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and athlete turned reality TV star, Caitlyn Jenner.
"I think this is a race between Gavin Newsom and me. I don't think about other candidates," Elder noted.
It can be remembered that the California recall election was filed in February of the previous year and it gained traction as Newsom was caught in several issues just like the time he was seen not wearing his face mask as he attended an event in a napa valley restaurant.
In late June, the office of the Secretary of State confirmed that enough signatures were gathered to trigger the California recall elections against Governor Gavin Newsom.
