Anya Taylor-Joy and 5 Other Latin Artists Nominated on Emmy Awards 2021
Netflix's series "The Queen's Gambit" star Anya Taylor-Joy was nominated in the 2021 Emmy Awards, along with five other Latin Artists. The roster of the nominations was announced on Tuesday, as Market Research Telecast revealed that the actress with Argentinian descent will compete for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
Variety reported that Emmy-winning father and daughter duo Ron Cephas Jones from "This Is Us," and Jasmine Cephas Jones from "Blindspotting," announced the roster of nominees for this year's Emmy Awards. The prestigious awards ceremony will be held on September 18, in Los Angeles, California.
Anya Taylor-Joy Nominated for Emmy Awards 2021
Anya Taylor Joy was joined with four other nominees for the title of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. "The Queen's Gambit" star will compete with Michaela Coel ("I May Destroy You"); Kate Winslet ("Mare of Easttown"); Elizabeth Olsen ("WandaVision"); and Cynthia Erivo ("Genius: Aretha").
Market Research Telecast noted that Taylor-Joy and Olsen's nomination will mark their first time in the Emmy gala.
Twitter fans were divided on who to vote for the nomination. One user described the nomination for the category as "packed." Another user posted Winslet's video clip on Twitter, captioning "Kate's Emmy win is secured." Meanwhile, another user said, "Elizabeth or Anya deserves." Apart from being nominated in one of the categories of the award-giving body, Netflix's "The Queen's Gambit" where Taylor-Joy played the lead role, also bagged a nomination on Emmy Award's Outstanding Limited Series category.
Other Latin Artists Nominated in Emmy Awards 2021
Apart from Anya Taylor-Joy, five other Latin artists - composed of Anthony Ramos, Mj Rodriguez, Rosie Perez, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Alexis Bledel - were recognized by the Television Academy, Los Angeles Times reported. Lin-Manuel Miranda was nominated in the category Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, for his role in Hamilton. Miranda's nomination marked his 5 consecutive Emmy nods, with one win for Original Music in 2014. The playwright took to Twitter to thank his colleagues in Hamilton as he was announced to be nominated.
Miranda also congratulated Mj Rodriguez - who has a Puerto Rican descent - for being nominated as for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Category. It was Rodriguez's first time to be nominated for the Emmys.
"The ancestors are cheering. First of many!" Miranda said on his Twitter account.
Meanwhile, Anthony Ramos, who played John in "Hamilton" with Lin-Manuel Miranda, was also nominated for the category Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. Afro-Latina actress Rosie Perez, on the other hand, was nominated for the category Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, for her role in "The Flight Attendant." Part Argentine and part Mexican actress, Alexis Bledel, bagged the nomination in the category Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series, for her role in "The Handmaid's Tale."
The 73rd edition of Emmy Awards covered an eligible period from the first of June last year, up to the thirty-first of May this year.
