US Soccer Goalkeeper Hope Solo Arrested, Charged With 4th-Degree Assault: Domestic Violence Alleged at House Party
Hope Solo, the American soccer goalkeeper and two-time Olympic gold medalist from Washington, has been arrested on domestic violence charges in Kirkland, Washington.
Kirkland police said the Olympic athlete was arrested for allegedly striking both her sister and nephew in a domestic violence spat. According to USA Today, "Hope Solo was arrested early Saturday morning, accused of hitting her sister and 17-year-old nephew, according to a statement by the Kirkland (Wash.) police department," and both suffered "'visible injuries.'"
The details are still unclear, but it seems Solo was having a party at her house, where she lives with husband and former NFL football player Jerramy Stevens. Police were called to the scene because of a noise and assault complaint, and Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray was quoted as saying, "There was a big party going on at her house. It was an out-of-control situation."
An anonymous 911 caller told police that a woman was hitting people and wouldn't stop. Police reported that Solo appeared intoxicated and was upset when they questioned her. She was booked at a regional jail, where she will stay until her court date Monday. She is charged with fourth-degree assault, and little information is available about what caused tempers to flare.
Solo is known for her on-the-field prowess as U.S. women's national soccer team goalie. She also appeared in the 13th season of ABC television series "Dancing with the Stars." Her partner on the show was Maksim Chmerkovskiy, and the pair was eliminated in the semifinals. She was also in ESPN's "The Body Issue," which features athletes either nude or semi-nude.
