Queen Elizabeth II COVID-19 Update: Royal Goes Back to Work After Death Hoax Goes Viral
Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday went back to work after contracting COVID-19 and false claims from a U.S. gossip website that she passed away.
According to Metro, the current state of the queen following her COVID-19 diagnosis was confirmed by a Buckingham Palace spokesperson, saying that Queen Elizabeth II granted Prime Minister Boris Johnson her weekly audience.
The Buckingham Palace furthered that the British royal talked to Johnson over the phone.
It was not clear what the queen and the prime minister talked about over the phone.
Queen Elizabeth II COVID-19 Treatment
Queen Elizabeth II was diagnosed with the notorious disease on Sunday.
A statement from the Buckingham Palace on Wednesday assured that the queen will "continue" to receive the medication and will follow the appropriate guidelines as she returned to the official duties, per Mirror.
Currently, Queen Elizabeth II is monitored by her physician, Professor Sir Huw Thomas. Thomas is known to be the head of the Medical Household.
It can be recalled that the queen, who received three jabs of COVID vaccine, experienced "mild cold-like symptoms."
Even though diagnosed with the disease, Buckingham Palace previously said that Queen Elizabeth II will perform light duties in the Windsor over the coming weeks.
Queen Elizabeth was not the only royal who contracted COVID-19.
Prince Charles tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time a week before the queen did, while Duchess Camilla also isolated last week when she tested positive for the disease three days after her husband.
Aside from the royals, several people from the Windsor castle team were also diagnosed with COVID-19.
Queen Elizabeth II's Death Hoax Goes Viral
Queen Elizabeth II's audience with Prime Minister Boris Johnson also came after rumors about her death surfaced on the internet.
The website Hollywood Unlocked gathered attention as they published an "exclusive" report about Queen Elizabeth II's death, per Metro.
In the report, the website alleged that their sources came from an insider from the "royal kingdom."
However, this section of the story was mocked by people online.
One Twitter user posted a GIF with animated characters Shrek and Donkey laughing, mocking the site attributing its source from the royal kingdom.
Another user said that the people who believe in the website's source are "worse than whatsapp aunties."
Meanwhile, founder and CEO Jason Lee on Tuesday stood by the statement made by his website saying that their site does not post "lies."
"I always stand by my sources. Waiting for an official statement from the palace," Lee said.
The Buckingham Palace refused to give comments on the story regarding Queen Elizabeth II's death, saying that they "would not entertain commenting on such story," per Metro.
According to reports, there is a strict protocol when it comes to the announcement of the death of the queen, which is codenamed Operation London Bridge.
Under the process, a "call cascade" will be done to inform the prime minister, the cabinet secretary, and the most senior civil servants and officials about the news.
Cabinet members will then be told "discretion is required," and then the royal household will release an official notification to inform the public about the death.
The newsflash will then go to the Press Association news agency and be shared with the rest of the world in one go.
