'The Batman' Tops 2022 Movie Releases, Earns $128M at Box Office
The dark knight once again rose in the box office as Robert Pattinson's version of "The Batman" grossed around $128.5 million, topping every other movie premiere this 2022.
Pattinson is joined by Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman in the film.The superhero reboot is the second pandemic-time flick to gross more than $100 million in a single weekend, according to Variety.
The total also symbolizes one of the Dark Knight franchise's largest debuts. And that speaks volumes about the film since Batman is one of the most well-known movie franchises. Since 1989's "Batman," films based on the character have grossed more than $5 billion at the international box office, per CNN.
While he is not new to million-dollar premieres after "The Twilight" saga, Pattinson said that he worked hard and used "shame" as his motivation to keep his body fit for the role, according to Independent.
'The Batman' Marks Start Of 'Post-Pandemic' Cinema
The latest caped-crusader movie release has been dubbed as the start of a long-awaited post-pandemic blockbuster boom, with UK box office sales expected to double this year, topping £1 billion for the first time since 2019.
In addition, "The Batman" is described as the first true post-pandemic blockbuster, as several nations, including the UK, have lifted all coronavirus restrictions. The film's premiere in London on Friday marked the beginning of a return to "normal" cinemagoing, and it will be studied attentively to see if people's habits change, per The Guardian.
The huge success of Bond and Spiderman films proved that cinema is back, says Omdia's film analyst David Hancock, and both did it when cinemagoing has not returned to normal conditions.
According to Omdia, the UK box office will reach around £1.1 billion this year, nearly four times the disastrous pandemic low of £297 million in 2020.
Sony's "Morbius," the next potential big money-maker, does not hit theaters until April 1.

Rotten Tomatoes, CinemaScore Give High Ratings to 'The Batman'
Depsite the grim tone and length of "The Batman," it has received positive reviews from CinemaScore, which rated it an A-. Meanwihile, it got an 85% Tomatometer score and 90% audience score in Rotten Tomatoes, which led to its great following.
Tagged as one of the longest superhero movies in history, the latest adventures of Gotham's dark knight was 2 hours and 56 minutes long.
The film directed by Matt Reeves reportedly cost $200 million to produce and has received mostly stellar reviews so far. According to Johnny Oleksinski of The Post, it is a bleak reminder of the city's current crime wave.
In his review, CNN's Brian Lowry called the picture "a dark and serious epic," adding that the movie presents "a muscular vision of the Dark Knight that hardcore fans have long desired."
