Mexico: 8 People Hurt After Truck With Fireworks Exploded at Carnival Parade in Puebla
At least eight people in Mexico were injured after a truck with fireworks exploded during a spring carnival parade in Puebla state.
According to Periodico AM, the explosion occurred while participants in the festivity, which included some students in a local school, advanced on South 3rd street in Ampliacion Balcones del Sur.
El Universal reported that the video that captured the terrifying explosion went viral on social media. In the footage, the participants, wearing white shirts and holding white ribbons, could be seen lined up on the road. Upon reaching the end of the street, the truck suddenly gave off white smoke, and fireworks exploded.
The truck was only a few meters away from where the young participants were lined up. The video showed dozens of people running, terrified about what happened. Screams can also be heard in the footage.
El Universal reported that some people in the carnival saw someone throw a firecracker at the truck, and authorities are now investigating it.
According to reports, four men and four women were hurt. They reportedly suffered minor burns and were treated at the scene. Those present in the carnival were reportedly the ones who called the emergency personnel following the explosion.

4 Dead in Mexico After Truck With Fireworks Exploded
A similar incident has reportedly occurred on Celaya-Villagran highway last December. According to El Universal, the truck loaded with fireworks for sale for the Christmas and New Year parties probably exploded due to a "spark."
The said truck was reportedly heading to the El Chinaco community in Villagran. Four people died following the explosion.
A man and a child were confirmed dead at the scene, while two men reportedly died at the hospital. The incident also injured six more people who had second and third-degree burns.
The Public Ministry then ordered the transfer of the burnt truck to forensic experts to determine the cause of the explosion.
Other Firework Explosions in Mexico
In October, two elderly people died in an explosion inside a building in the La Mejorada neighborhood in Yucatan, Mexico, where fireworks were stored, according to El Universal.
The outlet said the property is known to be the home of the Brito family known to have been storing and selling fireworks for a long time. The family reportedly kept a large quantity of gunpowder for different explosive products. Local reports noted that occupants of the surrounding houses were injured.
In September, four people were injured after a firework workshop in Zapopan, Mexico exploded. Three of the victims reportedly sustained serious burns.
Witnesses said the explosion at the Hogares de Nuevo Mexico neighborhood broke the windows of several houses around the area. They noted that first, there was a flash before the strong explosion.
