The Bahamas Travel Safety Guidelines
The U.S. State Department has raised the Travel Alert Level for The Bahamas to 2, advising travelers to exercise increased caution. The State Department warned that most crime occurs on New Providence and Grand Bahama islands.
The department noted that violent crimes such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assault could occur. However, it said it does not generally happen in tourist areas.
Tourist activities involving commercial recreational watercraft such as water tours are not consistently regulated.
Watercraft are reportedly often not maintained, with many companies do not have safety certifications to operate in The Bahamas.
The State Department also advised travelers not to answer their doors at their hotel or residence unless they know who it is.
The agency further noted to refrain from physically resisting any robbery attempt. It also advised tourists to review the Country Security Report for The Bahamas.
Meanwhile, the country has testing requirements that were put into effect last December 27. Any person presenting COVID-19 test results older than three days will not be allowed to enter The Bahamas, according to Bahamas' Travel.
In addition, all travelers should apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa. On October 1, 2021, The Bahamas removed the travel health visa requirement for inter-island travel.
