Timberwolves-Clippers #GlueGate: The Real Reason Animal Activist Woman Superglued Herself on Court
During the Timberwolves and Clippers game on Tuesday, a woman made her way onto the court and tried to glue herself to the floor under the basket.
The woman, identified as Alicia Santurio, made her way onto the court of the Target Center in Minneapolis during the second quarter of the game.
Santurio, an animal activist, was wearing a shirt with a message: "GLEN TAYLOR ROASTS ANIMALS ALIVE," a reference to Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor. The game was interrupted for about two minutes before Santurio was dragged by security personnel away from the court.
Minutes later, TV commentator Kevin Harlan spoke to the national television audience and said that they had been told it was "a protest." Santurio is reportedly an animal rights activist with Direct Action Everywhere, a grassroots animal rights network.
In a press release, Direct Action Everywhere said Santurio attempted to glue herself to the court in protest of a recent mass killing of 5.3 million chickens at an Iowa farm owned by the Timberwolves owner after an outbreak of "highly pathogenic avian influenza."
The group criticized the "ventilation shutdown plus" (VSD+) method used to kill the chickens, whereby ventilation openings in the industrial sheds were closed and used factors such as heat, humidity, and carbon dioxide to eventually kill the animals via suffocation.
Direct Action Everywhere further noted that dozens of surviving birds were buried alive. The group said neither the Rembrandt Enterprises, an Iowa factory egg farm owned by Taylor, nor the Timberwolves have responded to queries regarding its investigation.
Direct Action Everywhere added that Rembrandt has already laid off more than 200 employees after the mass killing. VSD+ has been widely criticized as inhumane by animal welfare organizations.
The group said a complaint against the egg farm supported by expert veterinary and legal opinions was submitted to local and state authorities on Monday, alleging that this conduct, recorded from March 20 to 22, violates state law.

#GlueGate Trended Amid Timberwolves and Clippers Game
Direct Action Everywhere tweeted that Alicia Santurio is the group's investigator probing the Timberwolves owner's farm for brutally killing millions of birds.
Boot Krewe Media also tweeted about the incident, saying that they had never seen a fan try to glue themselves to the court's floor before.
Santurio also tweeted about the incident, saying she superglued herself to the basketball court to bring attention to the mass killing of chickens at Taylor's farm using VSD+.
Bleacher Report shared a video clip of Santurio being escorted off after attempting to glue herself to the floor during the Timberwolves-Clippers game.
Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers Game
The Timberwolves-Clipper game had a score that stayed close at the break, 53-51. Both sides have gone on lengthy runs with some big-time sequences from Timberwolves Anthony Edwards and D'Angelo Russell, according to Clutch Points.
Normal Powell led Clippers with 14 points while Paul George followed suit in what was a cold-shooting half for the Clippers star.
But the Timberwolves took charge in the fourth quarter to defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 109-104 in the Play-in Tournament on Tuesday.
