Although festivals across Latin American regions may look alike, each country, like Belize, has its unique way of celebrating or hosting gatherings, making it a new experience for every foreigner.

Entire Belize turns out to celebrate Carnival every February, but this Central American nation is also home to other gatherings and festivities throughout the year.

Belize Festivals You Should Never Miss

Festivals in Belize have their respective dates and schedule, which may influence your plan of traveling into the country. To help you decide what events and gatherings you should attend in Belize, here are the top festivals in the country.

Benque Viejo del Carmen

If you wish to travel to Belize in July, then you should never miss attending the Benque Viejo del Carmen festival. According to Trip Savvy, this festival is held in the town of Benque Viejo del Carmen, a border town between Belize and Guatemala.

It usually begins in July with a series of religious celebrations called Las Aboradas and will be followed by 15 days of carnival rides, beauty pageants, live music, and parades. A firework display wraps up this festival on July 16.

Cacao Fest

If you think chocolate is only special for your loved one, think again because the main ingredient of the sweet has a festival in Belize, and is celebrated for one weekend annually, according to Larubeya.

The Cacao Fest is held in the town of Punta Gorda in the Toledo District, the heart of cacao-growing in Belize. The town celebrates cacao by making all things inspired by it, including chocolate beer and chocolate soap. The Cacao Fest is usually celebrated every third week of May.

September Celebrations

September is a big deal in Belize because the country celebrates a couple of holidays during this month. Belize begins its festivities on September 10 to celebrate the national holiday of St. George's Caye Day, when people commemorate the historic triumph of British Settlers over the Spanish Armada, which led to Belize becoming the only English-speaking country in Central America.

On September 21, the country celebrates its Independence Day with colorful parades showcasing the country's colors - red, white, and blue. 

Deer Dance Festival

If you want a festival that celebrates and commemorates a deeper aspect of the Belizean culture, then the Deer Dance Festival is for you.

The Deer Dance Festival is held in the Mayan village of San Antonio in the Toledo District every August. The event features a ritualized dance emulating the hunting of a deer.

Placencia Lobsterfest

If you love lobsters, then the Placencia Lobsterfest is celebrated every June through a three-day party. During this festival in the Placencia Peninsula of Belize, local chefs compete to curate the most savory dish out of the seafood. Games are also available during the event, with live music and a beach party that lasts until dawn.
