Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Lauds Sen. Joe Manchin For 'Saving' the Current Administration in Latest Attack on Pres. Joe Biden
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos lauded Senator Joe Manchin on Twitter on Sunday, claiming that the senator saved the current administration in his latest attack on President Joe Biden over inflation.
Bezos credited Manchin for not supporting Biden's spending proposals, claiming that those bills would further fuel the inflation in the United States, according to The Hill.
"In fact, the administration tried hard to inject even more stimulus into an already over-heated, inflationary economy and only Manchin saved them from themselves," Bezos underscored.
The Amazon CEO then emphasized that inflation hurts the least affluent, and misdirection would not help the U.S. against it.
The billionaire's comments came after Manchin said last month that the Democrat's budget reconciliation bill should revolve around how to address inflation and reduce the deficit. Manchin also previously said that he wants half of any revenue to go toward federal deficit reduction, contending that it is the only way to battle inflation in the U.S.
Biden Administration Pushes Back on Jeff Bezos' Statement
On Sunday, President Joe Biden and his administration responded to Bezos' claims and statements on the social media platform.
The Biden administration retaliated against Bezos's statement through White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates, the Daily Mail reported.
Bates noted that it will not require taking a huge leap in figuring out why Bezos opposes the idea of an economic agenda for the middle class that cuts some of the biggest cost families encounter, as well as fighting inflation for the long haul, and add to the historic deficit reduction the president is trying to achieve.
"It's also unsurprising that this tweet comes after the president met with labor organizers, including Amazon employees," Bates added.
Jeff Bezos Slams Pres. Joe Biden on Twitter
Bezos' comments on Sunday came days after he directly responded to President Joe Biden regarding the chief executive's statement on how to reduce inflation, according to Insider.
On Friday, President Joe Biden tweeted that the inflation in the United States can be eradicated if the government made sure that the wealthiest corporations in the country would pay their fair share.
Quoting Biden's tweet, Bezos suggested that the newly created Disinformation Board should review the president's tweet.
"Raising corp taxes is fine to discuss. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection," Bezos added.
It can be recalled that Jeff Bezos was criticized for not paying their taxes. In 2019, Biden said that companies like Amazon, which pulls billions of dollars, should not pay a lower tax rate than firefighters and teachers.
Amazon responded to Biden's tweet at that time, claiming that they paid $2.6 billion in corporate taxes since 2016.
"We pay every penny we owe," Amazon noted.
ProPublica revealed that Amazon did not pay any federal income taxes in 2017 and 2018, while Bezos did not pay any federal income tax in 2007 and 2011, Insider reported.
