President Joe Biden on Monday said the U.S. is going through an "incredible transition" away from being dependent on fossil fuels with the nation's high gas prices.

According to Fox News, Biden made his statement in a joint press briefing with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida amid a stretch of record-high gas prices in the U.S.

"When it comes to the gas prices, we're going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it's over, we'll be stronger, and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over," said Biden.

New York Post reported that the president seemed to celebrate or justify the record-high gas prices Americans face. Biden then noted that his administration is doing everything to keep the gas prices away from getting worse.

While he acknowledged that the high gas prices in the U.S. affect many families, Biden noted that the gas prices were already a "matter of great discussion" at his "kitchen table" when he was growing up. 

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has contributed to the high gas prices in the U.S., as several of the nation's allies cut off all imports of Russian oil and gas.

The Biden administration released at least 180 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which they claimed would aid in lowering gas prices at the pump. However, the president acknowledged that the move helped, but it was still not enough.

Republicans Hit Back on Joe Biden's Comments About High Gas Prices

Republicans hit back at President Joe Biden's statement on Monday concerning the high gas prices.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) said Democrats were celebrating the high prices of gas that Americans were paying.

Republican House Minority Whip Steve Scalise noted that the high gas prices at the pump were part of "their radical agenda."

Texas Republican congressional candidate Wesley Hunt also slammed Biden for what he said.

"Allow me to translate this: The Biden Administration is prepared to let your family suffer economically to advance their climate agenda. It's a 'transition,' alright. A transition into poverty. This is socialism," Hunt noted.

Gas Prices in the U.S.

Joe Biden made his comments as the national average for a gallon of regular gas stands at $4.56. According to Fox News, the average price as of Monday is $.40 higher than it was just a month ago.

Reports claimed that some parts of the country, such as California, have an average gas price of $6.06 as of Monday. However, CBS News reported that there were gas pumps in California that charge at least $7.25 a gallon.

According to the GasBuddy app, some of these gas pumps that offered between $7.29 and $7.83 a gallon were Chevron at the N. Alameda St. in Los Angeles, Shell at 453 Main St. in Bridgeport, and Mobil at 8489 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles.
