Texas School Shooting: Grieving Husband of Slain Teacher Dies of Heart Attack
The husband of one of the adults killed in the Texas school shooting also died on Thursday, two days later the attack.
Joe Garcia, the husband of the late Irma Garcia who died in the aftermath of the tragedy, has also met his demise due to a heart condition, BBC reported.
The couple was reportedly married for at least 24 years. They are survived by their four children.
A nephew of Irma, John Martinez, took to Twitter on Thursday to announce the devastating news about the passing of the victim's husband.
"EXTREMELY heartbreaking and come with deep sorrow to say that my Tia Irma's husband Joe Garcia has passed away due to grief," Martinez noted.
Martinez also told NBC News that Joe Garcia was asked to deliver flowers for Irma at the memorial for her. However, he fell over not more than three minutes after sitting down on a chair.
"He just fell over. They tried doing chest compressions and nothing worked. The ambulance came and they couldn't, they couldn't bring them back," the family member underscored.
Medical experts describe Joe Garcia's incident as a potential example of a broken heart syndrome, also known as takutsubo cardiomyopathy. The said condition usually occurs in response to an extreme stressor like a sudden death of a spouse. Experts add that people with broken heart syndrome release a large amount of stress hormone that prevents the heart from contracting properly.
Victims of Texas School Shootings
Irma Garcia and Eve Mireles are the adults who were killed in the Texas School shooting that occurred at the Robb Elementary School in the city of Uvalde.
Mireles' aunt, Lydia Delgado, confirmed to ABC News that the fourth-grade teacher taught for approximately 17 years in the school district.
Meanwhile, Irma Garcia has been teaching at the Robb Elementary School for at least 25 years. Her son, Christian Garcia, noted that a friend from law enforcement who was at the scene during the shooting saw Irma shielding her students during the rampage.
Other victims who died in the aftermath of the Texas school shooting were 19 students who are reportedly between 10-11 years old.
Texas School Shooting
The suspect in the Texas school shooting, Salvador Ramos, also died after he went on a rampage at Robb Elementary School.
A former classmate of Ramos revealed that the shooter texted him photos of a firearm he had and a bag full of ammunition days before the attack. The friend also revealed that Ramos was taunted by the people from his class for the clothes he wore and his family's financial situation.
On Wednesday, the mother of the shooter claimed that Ramos was not a "violent person" but acknowledged that he did not have many friends. The mother was also in disbelief that her son shot his grandmother.
"I don't believe that my son would do that. He loved my mom," the shooter's mom, Adriana Reyes, allegedly said, according to the mother of her boyfriend.
