House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, reportedly killed his older brother in a car crash when he was a teenager.

Paul was arrested on Saturday for drunk driving after he drove his Porsche into the way of an oncoming Jeep driven by Jesus Lopez.

According to Daily Mail, prior to the recent drunk driving, the House Speaker's husband was also involved in an accident in Northern California in February 1957, when his sports car flipped over. Paul's 19-year-old brother, David, who was his passenger, died in the accident.

Paul was a high school sophomore at the time and would be cited for misdemeanor manslaughter. However, there was no court case, and a coroner's jury exonerated him.

At the time, a patrolman quoted in a newspaper report said that Paul's brother urged him to drive slower before the deadly crash.

Paul reportedly told Patrolman Thomas Ganley that he tried to slow down by shifting gears in the stick shift car but lost control.

The now 82-year-old husband of Nancy Pelosi picked up his brother from a girlfriend's house in San Francisco, and the two decided to go on a joyride rather than go straight home.

David was dead on arrival at the hospital. He was a freshman at the College of San Mateo at the time.

Reports noted that David was probably strangled by a brace he wore to support a neck fracture he had sustained when he dived into shallow water in Lake Tahoe. Authorities said David's brace was reportedly "lodged tightly against his neck," the San Mateo Times reported. 

On the other hand, Paul, who was trapped under the car for a while, broke his collarbone in the crash. He eventually managed to free himself and called for help.

The fatal accident involving Paul and his brother occurred six years before he married Nancy Pelosi, who is the daughter of a former Baltimore mayor.

Nancy Pelosi Husband's Paul Pelosi Arrested for Driving Under the Influence

Paul Pelosi was arrested this Memorial Day weekend on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

In a statement to San Francisco Gate, Paul's spokesperson Larry Kamer said that several reports about Paul's arrest "included incorrect information" about the incident. Kamer noted that one of the wrong pieces of information was the attribution of a prior DUI arrest to Paul.

California Highway Patrol records and Kamer's statement noted that Paul was driving to his home in St. Helena from a dinner party at around 10:15 p.m.

He was driving on Walnut Lane in Napa, trying to cross State Route 29, when the 48-year-old Jeep driver hit his Porsche. 

Paul was then arrested on suspicion of DUI and was booked in the Napa County Detention Center. Kamer said Paul was "fully cooperative" with the officers.

The House Speaker's husband was later released on $5,000 bail.

Nancy Pelosi Declined to Comment on Paul Pelosi's Arrest

Nancy Pelosi has continued to avoid talking about her husband's DUI arrest as she spoke with her constituents in San Francisco Tuesday.

According to NBC Bay Area, Nancy was driven out of a back door in haste by her staff and security detail to avoid any questions about her husband's arrest following an AAPI roundtable in Chinatown.

Nancy has also avoided reporters' questions during an earlier event in the Mission District.

In a statement issued over the weekend, Nancy's staff said the House Speaker will not be commenting on "this private matter that occurred while she was on the East Coast."

Nancy Pelosi was in Rhode Island at the time, where she delivered a commencement speech at Brown University.
