Jennifer Lopez is one of the most famous Latin pop artists in showbiz. With her beauty and talent that traverses music, film, and television, she was able to capture the hearts of many fans worldwide.

But did you know that Lopez, also known as JLo, almost quit the industry during her early years? JLo became more open about this sensitive part of her career in her Netflix documentary, "Halftime."

"There were many times where I was just like, I think I'm just going to quit," Lopez said in the documentary, adding that she needed to figure out who she was and believe in that and not from anyone else.

Lopez then noted that one of the reasons she almost quit showbiz was because of her curvy body, which came from her Latin roots.

The "Let's Get Loud" singer said that when she was starting to build her career, there was far less diversity in showbiz regarding body shape.

At the time, JLo noted that the beauty ideal "was very thin, blonde, tall, not a lot of curves." So they were people mocking her curvy figure, especially her bum.

"It was hard when you think people think you're a joke - like a punchline... but it wound up affecting things in a way that I never intended," Lopez said.

Ben Affleck, Lopez's fiancé, also appeared in the documentary and recalled when she asked the singer about the sort of scrutiny she had come under.

 "I said to her once, 'Doesn't this bother you?' And she said, 'I'm Latina, I'm a woman, I expected this'," Affleck said.

Jennifer Lopez Admits 'Losing' Some Parts of Herself

Jennifer Lopez also shared in the documentary that she lost a part of herself while building herself and her empire in showbiz.

JLo also spoke about how hard it was to get back to work after her divorce from Marc Anthony as a single mom with two kids.

She also shared that at age 42, movie roles were not knocking on her door, and she did not know her value in the industry anymore at the time. She then revealed that "American Idol" was the first big job she did after she had her babies.

Her career resurrected into the forefront with her critically-acclaimed turn in the 2019 film "Hustlers." She earned her first Oscar nomination for the film. She did not earn one, but JLo admitted that she dreamt that she did.

"I dreamt that it happened, and when I woke up, I realized it was a dream," she noted.

Jennifer Lopez also shared that living in the public eye made her proud of herself because she knew how to hold it together without anyone knowing what she felt.

JLo said the secret was about being your own keeper and not looking for someone to give you a sense of home.

Jennifer Lopez's Road to Showbiz Success

Jennifer Lopez started her career as a dancer, and she appeared in several stage musicals and various music videos. JLo got her first big break in dancing on "In Living Color" before she became one of Janet Jackson's backup dancers.

In 1997, she landed a role in the movie "Selena" where she gave life to the Tejana singer. The said film earned a Golden Globe nomination.

JLo started her music career when she released her debut Latin pop album, "On the 6," in 1999.
