The respective family of the British journalist and Indigenous expert who went missing in Brazil's Amazon opened up about the tragedy after remains were discovered by the authorities on Wednesday.

The relatives of reporter Dom Phillips, and expert Bruno Pereira, took to their social media to address the painful and devastating news on Thursday.

It can be recalled that the disappearance of the journalist and the expert fueled action from around the world, with human rights groups, environmentalists, and reporters from around the globe urging Brazil's government to step up the search following a slow start, Al Jazeera reported.

Family of Journalist Dom Philipps, Indigenous Expert Bruno Pereira Speak Out

Dom Phillip's wife, Alessandra Sampaio, said that their heart was broken following the death of the duo who went missing in Brazil's Amazon rainforest.

Sampaio stated that the discovery of bodies "puts an end to the anguish" of not having any idea of the whereabouts of the journalist and the Indigenous expert.

"Now we can bring them home and say goodbye with love... Today, we also begin our quest for justice," the wife of the British journalist said.

Meanwhile, Bruno Pereira's wife, Beatriz Matos, took to Twitter on Thursday to pay tribute to her husband.

"Now that Bruno's spirits are wandering in the forest and spread among us, our strength is much greater," the wife of the Indigenous expert noted.

Phillip's relatives and friends also said they were "heartbroken" after learning that the journalist and Indigenous expert were murdered while they were in Brazil's Amazon.

They also extended their sympathies to the wives of the victims, as well as the other "Brazilian families" of both men.

"We are grateful to all those who have taken part in the search, especially the Indigenous groups who worked tirelessly to find evidence of the attack," Phillip's relatives said. They also urged the members of the media to let the family of the British journalist deal privately with what had happened.

Brazil Missing Case: The Death of Journalist and Indigenous Expert in Amazon Rainforest

The journalist and Indigenous expert were last seen on June 5 on their boat in a river near the entrance of Javari Valley Indigenous territory.

The area is known to be home to conflicts between fishermen, poachers, and government agents.

The Brazil federal police have arrested two individuals, who are brothers, in connection to the missing case. The two were identified as Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira and Oseney da Costa de Oliveira.

On Wednesday, one of the suspects arrested confessed to the crime and admitted to killing and dismembering the bodies of Phillips and Pereira.

Detective Eduardo Fontes noted that Amarildo led the investigators to a site where human remains were dug up.

The said remains discovered by authorities from Brazil are being identified.
