Former President Donald Trump said that he has no idea if Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has decided to run for president in the 2024 elections.

Trump made his comments during an interview with The New Yorker published on Sunday.

"I don't know if Ron is running, and I don't ask him," Trump underscored, adding that announcing such a move is only entitled to DeSantis himself.

However, Trump reiterated in the interview that he is going to win against the Florida governor if they fight for the highest position two years from now.

The former president also pointed out that he is "very close" to deciding if he will run for president in 2024.

Meanwhile, DeSantis has not ruled out a presidential bid. However, he has insisted that he is focused on his reelection campaign this year.

"Trump World is working overtime to find ways to burn DeSantis down. They really hate him," a Republican consultant told The New Yorker.

It was not the first time that Trump stressed that he will win over Ron DeSantis when they fight for the post in 2024. In October last year, Trump voiced his confidence in beating the Florida governor if he would run for the highest position.

"If I faced him, I'd beat him like I would everyone else," Trump said.

The former president also predicted that DeSantis will be one of the GOP officials who will drop out from running as president.

Donald Trump Says He and Ron DeSantis Are on 'Good' Terms

Despite the possible rivalry, Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that they are on good terms.

He pointed out that he and DeSantis have a "very good relationship." He also noted that he is "proud" of the Florida Governor.

DeSantis and Trump have a history of public alliance. In his interview on Sunday, Trump took credit for the Florida governor's win in 2018, saying, "If I didn't endorse him, he wouldn't have won."

DeSantis campaigned for Trump and appeared in some of his rallies, but insiders claim that the former president was not convinced.

"Real-Time" host Bill Maher said that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis would be a better president.

Maher made his comments when he was asked by podcast host Krystal Ball asked him if Ron DeSantis is "way better" than Donald Trump, which prompted the comedian to give several reasons.

"He's not certifiably insane. That's a great one to start off with... He won't be poop-tweeting every day," Maher noted, adding that Ron DeSantis would not be having feuds with personalities like Bette Midler on Twitter.
