Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Slams Joe Biden for Urging Gas Companies to Lower Their Prices
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Sunday slammed President Joe Biden over his comments on the ongoing gas price increase in the United States.
President Joe Biden, on midnight Saturday, took to Twitter to place the responsibility of lowering the gas prices on the oil companies, contending that "this is a time of war and global peril."
"Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you're paying for the product. And do it now," the president added. However, Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos does not like what Biden proposed on his social media account. Bezos noted that inflation may be a "far too important" problem for the White House to make statements like what the president said.
"It's either straight ahead misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of basic market dynamics," Bezos added.
The U.S. Oil and Gas Association also hopped in to slam President Joe Biden over his tweet, claiming he was not the poster of his recent statement regarding gas prices.
"Working on it Mr. President. In the meantime - have a Happy 4th and please make sure the WH intern who posted this tweet registers for Econ 101 for the fall semester," the agency underscored.
Admin Officials Defends Pres. Joe Biden's Gas Price Statement
On Sunday, Biden administration officials defended the gas price statement of the president after he received backlash for his tweet. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quoted the Amazon CEO's tweet, highlighting that the prices of oil have dropped about $15 over the past month. Pierre then pointed out that what happened was not "basic market dynamics," but a market that failed the American consumer.
"But I guess it's not surprising that you think oil and gas companies using market power to reap record profits at the expense of the American people is the way our economy is supposed to work," Karine Jean-Pierre added.
In an interview with "Fox News Sunday," National Security Council's coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby, also defended Biden, highlighting that the president is "plain-spoken." Kirby also rejected the criticism of the Amazon CEO, emphasizing Biden's efforts in bringing the prices of gas down.
"The president is working very, very hard across many fronts, Mike, to try to bring that price down... If everybody cooperates on this, we can bring the price down at least by about a dollar a gallon," Kirby pointed out.
