The Television Academy on Tuesday announced its nominees for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards, and it is quite clear which series had the most nominations.

HBO's "Succession" leads with 25 nominations, followed by "Ted Lasso" and "The White Lotus" with 20 nominations each. "Only Murders in the Building" received 17 nods, while "Squid Game" follows behind the Top 4 with 14 nominations.

The announcement is also heating up the growing rivalry between HBO and Netflix, with HBO and HBO Max leading this year with 140 combined nominations and their rival Netflix with 105. 

Despite HBO getting a combined number, the network still holds more nominations than its rival, as HBO alone got 108 nominations without HBO Max's number of nominations, according to Variety.

However, it won't be until the awarding ceremony on September 12 that we will know which streaming service truly won this year.

2022 Emmy Awards: 'Succession,' 'Ted Lasso,' 'Squid Game' Dominate Nominations

The Academy revealed that the nominees for Best Drama Series are "Better Call Saul," "Euphoria," "Ozark," and "Severance." "Squid Game," "Stranger Things," "Succession," and "Yellow Jackets." 

HBO received two nominations in the category with "Succession" and "Euphoria," while Netflix has three with "Stranger Things," "Ozark," and "Squid Game."

For the Best Comedy Series, Netflix did not have a single nomination, while HBO has three, with "Barry," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Hacks." 

Other nominees include "Abbott Elementary," "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," "Only Murders in the Building," "Ted Lasso," and "What We Do in the Shadows." However, the one to look out for this year is Apple TV+'s "Ted Lasso," which has the second-highest number of nominations after "Succession."

For the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, the nominees include Jason Bateman ("Ozark"), Brian Cox ("Succession"), Lee Jung-jae ("Squid Game"), Bob Odenkirk ("Better Call Saul"), Adam Scott ("Severance"), and Jeremy Strong ("Succession").

For the Lead Actress in a Drama Series category, the nominees are Jodie Comer ("Killing Eve"), Laura Linney ("Ozark"), Melanie Lynskey ("Yellowjackets"), Sandra Oh ("Killing Eve"), Reese Witherspoon ("The Morning Show"), and Zendaya ("Euphoria").

The Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nominations include Donald Glover ("Atlanta"), Bill Hader ("Barry"), Nicholas Hoult ("The Great"), Steve Martin ("Only Murders in the Building"), Martin Short ("Only Murders in the Building"), and Jason Sudeikis ("Ted Lasso").

For Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, the nominees are Rachel Brosnahan ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"), Quinta Brunson ("Abbott Elementary"), Kaley Cuoco ("The Flight Attendant"), Elle Fanning ("The Great"), Issa Rae ("Insecure"), and Jean Smart ("Hacks").

Late Night talk shows still dominate the Variety Talk Series category, with "The Daily Show With Trevor Noah" (Comedy Central), "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" (ABC), "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" (HBO), "Late Night With Seth Meyers" (NBC), and "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" (CBS).

2022 Emmy Awards Lack Latino Representation

The 2022 Emmy Awards had a stronger representation of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community and Asians in general.

 "Squid Game" certainly contributed to that, along with Sandrah Oh, Himesh Patel, Bowen Yang, and other members of the AAPI community, according to Variety. However, the same cannot be said for Latinos. 

Oscar Isaac certainly deserved his nomination for his performance in HBO's "Scenes from a Marriage." However, he and Afro-Latino Colman Domingo (Guest Actor in a Drama Series - "Euphoria") were the only Latino nominees this year.

Many have pointed out that Selena Gomez's performance from "Only Murders in the Building" was snubbed. However, she did receive a nomination as an executive producer for the show. She is the only second Latina to receive that nomination after Salma Hayek.
