Johnny Depp's ex-girlfriend, Kate Moss, revealed why she testified on behalf of the actor during his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's "Desert Island Discs," the British supermodel said she decided to do it to enlighten people about the truth.

 "I know the truth about Johnny. I know he never kicked me down the stairs. I had to say that truth," Moss noted.

Last May, Moss appeared virtually in a Virginia court to deny rumors that Depp shoved her down a flight of stairs while dating between 1994 and 1998.

The staircase incident came up again after the "Aquaman" actress said that she "swung" at the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star to defend her younger sister Whitney Henriquez. Heard noted that she was triggered when she thought about "Kate Moss and stairs."

Moss said under oath that she slid down the stairs and hurt his back. She added that Depp never pushed, kicked, or threw her down "any stairs."

When questioned by Johnny Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez during the trial, Amber Heard said she did not expect Kate Moss to show up, adding that the supermodel's appearance did not matter to her.

"Everybody who was around in the '90s and the early aughts knew that rumor. I had heard that rumor from multiple people," the actress said.

"It doesn't change what I believed at the time, when we were on the stairs and I thought he was gonna kill my sister by pushing her down the stairs," she added.

Johnny Depp Files Appeal on Defamation Case Against Amber Heard

Johnny Depp took further action in his defamation case against Amber Heard, despite wanting to move on from it.

In a statement to Los Angeles Times, Depp's legal team said the verdict of a jury in Fairfax County, Virginia speaks for itself, and their client believes that this was a time for both parties "to move on with their lives and heal."

However, Depp's camp noted that if Heard was determined to pursue further litigation by appealing the verdict, the actor will also take action, Cinema Blend reported.

"Mr. Depp is filing a concurrent appeal to ensure that the full record and all legal issues are considered by the Court of Appeal," Depp's legal team noted.

The actor's appeal filed Friday contests the $2 million award of compensatory damages awarded to Heard. On Thursday, Heard officially filed a motion to appeal the jury verdict ordering her to pay her ex-husband $10.35 million in damages in his defamation case against her.

Lawyers for the actress filed the three-page "notice of intent to appeal" in a Fairfax County court where the defamation trial was heard. However, the documents did not lay out the grounds for the appeal.

A spokesperson for Heard told Yahoo Entertainment that they were appealing the verdict because they believe the court made errors that "prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment."

The spokesperson further noted that although they know their move "will ignite the Twitter bonfires," they need to do this "to ensure both fairness and justice." According to reports, Amber Heard's camp has until September 4 to file the appeal motion laying out their arguments.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Defamation Trial

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have battled over a 2018 op-ed the actress wrote for the Washington Post, calling herself a domestic violence survivor. 

The piece did not mention Depp by name, but the actor claimed he was booted from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise due to the "clear implication" that he was the abuser in his ex-wife's op-ed. 

Johnny Depp also alleged that Amber Heard was the actual "perpetrator" of the violent encounters that damaged their relationship. He asked for $50 million in damages. The actress countersued for $100 million for nuisance.

On June 1, a Virginia court ruled that Heard must pay her ex-husband $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.

And with Depp's lawyer referring to Heards' claims as a "hoax," the actress was awarded $2 million by the jury in compensatory damages for her counterclaim but nothing in punitive damages. 

Last month, the judge told the actress' legal team that she must pay the $8.35 million judgment with 6% annual interest for an appeal to formally move forward. Heard has not yet paid the sum.

The actress' lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, earlier said her client does not have the money. Reports said Amber Heard only had to pay $500 to start the process. It was still unclear how she would pay the rest.
