'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1' 2014 Movie Trailer & Cast: Promotional Posters Released for Sequel's November Air Date [Photos]
A series of "propaganda" posters have been released to set the atmosphere and give a feel for the upcoming film sequel "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1."
In a rather unique strategy of promoting the film, neither main actors Jennifer Lawrence nor Josh Hutcherson who star in the film can be seen on any of the posters. Instead, the posters feature the faces of characters from different districts, dubbed the various "District Heroes" coming from each of the 12 districts of the fictional Panem. District 12, the mining district where the female protagonist Katniss comes from, depicts a dirt-covered little girl wearing torn clothes with miner's equipment including a gas mask placed on her lap and a mining helmet by her side.
The portraits appear as if they came straight from fashion magazines but at the same time, they give the sense of propaganda, which is a revolving theme in the third installation of the Hunger Games trilogy. Each postern includes the catchphrase "The capitol salutes its citizens in the" followed by the name of each district. Also included are slogans such as "Panem today, Panem tomorrow, and Panem forever," which the president used in an effort to keep a revolution from igniting.
It is a very interesting move by the film's promoters as the campaign focuses more on the non-stars of the cast despite having award-winning Jennifer Lawrence on board, who has had a growing cult-like following because of the internet.
While the film is not set to hit the big screen until Nov. 21 this year, the bold posters have started to create a buzz among the fans. Unlike other teasers that provide visually appealing promotional materials, "The Hunger Games" decided to let the audience bask in the ambiance of its setting and let them feel what it is like to be in Panem.
Not all 12 districts have a poster, but more will probably come out as the release date draws closer.
