President Joe Biden compared his COVID-19 experience with former President Donald Trump on Wednesday while giving an address to the American public after spending five days in isolation.

On Wednesday, Biden recalled Trump's diagnosis of the virus during the early days of the pandemic when he was still the president of the United States.

"Here's the bottom line: When my predecessor got COVID he had to get helicoptered to Walter Reed Medical Center," Biden said. The president also emphasized that Trump, during his diagnosis, was "severely ill," adding that thankfully, he recovered.

Biden then noted that when he tested positive for COVID, he was not brought to the hospital and was working upstairs, thanks to the vaccines.

In October 2020, former President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19. He was not vaccinated as COVID vaccines were still developed during that time.

On the day he announced his COVID diagnosis, Trump was transferred to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The former president spent the weekend at the said hospital, where he was treated with an eight-gram dose of experimental antibody therapy cocktail from Regeneron.

In March last year, Trump announced that he was then vaccinated with the Pfizer COVID vaccine before he left the White House.

Pres. Joe Biden Promotes COVID Boosters to Avoid Severe Symptoms

Biden took a moment on Wednesday to promote the COVID boosters among Americans, claiming that the public can mitigate or avoid winding up severe cases through booster shots, at-home tests, and easy-to-use effective medications, per ABC News.

The president added he got through COVID without fear due to the life-saving tools that can be accessed by the public.

"You don't need to be president to get these tools used for your defense," Biden underscored.

Biden then added that the public can live without fear by getting boosted, tested, and treated. He also made sure that his administration is still vigilant amid the pandemic. He emphasized that the federal government has the tools to keep people from getting ill or dying of COVID.

President Joe Biden also urged Americans to consider wearing face masks indoors during his public address on Wednesday. Biden said that high-quality face masks were made available for free, which is why the public should consider wearing them in crowded indoor spaces. However, he also acknowledged that even people who wear face masks may still get sick of COVID.

The White House announced last Thursday that President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Biden's physician, said that the president tested negative on Tuesday evening and again in the morning of his sixth isolation day.

Biden was also enthusiastic about his negative test results, with the president posting a photo of it on his Twitter.

According to the White House, President Joe Biden was infected with the BA.5 variant of COVID, which is responsible for the fresh surge in cases around the world.
