For the avid gamer, there is only one real question as the summer comes to a close and we inch ever-closer to the holiday season: Xbox One or PS4? Let's take a look at some of the specifics to see which one is the better buy.

Xbox One ($499)

First to note, obviously, is the price point. It came as a bit of a shock to gamers when Xbox announced the nearly $500 price of their console, as they went for a more economical gaming experience with the Xbox 360. It certainly doesn't help Microsoft's case when one compares this price to the PS4.

Then there is the matter of specs. That costly price tag does come with some benefits, one of them being a built-in Kinect. Granted, many hardcore gamers do not find much use for the Kinect, but still, future games are likely to incorporate it more and it is certainly fun to play around with.

As for what's under the hood, the Xbox One is running a 853 MHz AMD Radeon GPU with 768 shaders and an 8 core CPU. It also comes with a Blu-ray player and a 500 GB hard drive, making this one formidable piece of machinery. The Xbox One is slated to be released on Nov. 27.

PS4 ($399)

So Sony clearly won the battle of price points. With the PS4 coming in at $100 cheaper than its Xbox One counterpart, its easy to see why many gamers are already favoring the PS4 before its even released. Once you look at the specs though, it becomes clear that Sony really one-upped Microsoft this time around.

It's true, the PS4 does not come with its own motion control camera (in this case the PS4 Eye). But you can buy that separately from the console for $60 and still have spent $40 less than the Xbox One. What's more, the PS4 really shines when taking a look at the hardware.

Simply put, the PS4 is running a superior GPU for a cheaper price. It has an AMD Radeon Graphics Core Next engine with 1152 shaders that have a remarkable shader throughput of 1.84 Teraflops. That's over a half of a teraflop more than the Xbox One. Not to mention the PS4 is also running an 8 core CPU and comes with a 500 GB hard drive as well.

The PS4 debuts Nov. 15, a week and a half before the Xbox One. It appears that it is clearly the decisive favorite to win at the register over Microsoft's Xbox One. An online poll at www.xboxonevspsfour.com agrees with that assessment. A whopping 75 percent of people on that site have voted for the PS4 over the Xbox One as their favorite console.
