Joe Biden Denies Involvement in Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Home Raid Amid New NARA Letter
President Joe Biden has denied involvement in the seizure of top-secret White House documents at ex-President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida earlier this month.
Links to the president arose after National Archivist Debrah Steidel Wall mentioned him in the now-publicized letter from the National Archives and Record Administration (NARA) to Donald Trump's legal counsel Evan Corcoran.
Joe Biden Denies Involvement on Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago Raid
In a White House address after introducing the new Student Loan Forgiveness program, Joe Biden answered swiftly and concisely on how much advance notice he got before the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago mansion.
"I didn't have any advance notice. None, zero, not one single bit. Thank you," Biden said before rushing to leave the press conference on Wednesday. This was not the first time the president denied involvement in the highly-controversial raid at the former president's mansion.
CBS News reported days after the Mar-a-Lago raid that the White House has denied that the president was "not briefed, not given a heads-up and that no one in the White House knew" about the FBI's intention to search the Mar-a-Lago mansion, not until after the media reported it.
But it seemed like various top officials had different opinions on the president and the White House's involvement in the raid.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement that he had "personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter," referring to the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago home.
"Upholding the rule of law means applying the law evenly, without fear or favor. Under my watch, that is precisely what the Justice Department is doing," he added.
However, the National Archives posted a letter dating back to May 10, stipulating the involvement of Joe Biden in the process of securing the documents from Donald Trump's mansion.
National Archives Letter Says Joe Biden Involved in the Mar-a-Lago Raid
According to Yahoo, Donald Trump's recent Truth Social post accused Joe Biden of weaponizing the Department of Justice to push forward his political agenda against him.
"The White House stated strongly that they were NOT INVOLVED, and knew absolutely nothing about, the political Witch Hunt going on with me, & that they didn't know anything at all about the Break-In of Mar-a-Lago. This was strongly reiterated again & again. WRONG!" Trump said.
The former Republican president referred to NARA's letter that was sent to his team in May 2022. In the letter, Steidel Wall said the president's counsel told her that Biden deferred to her determination "on respecting Trump's claims of executive privilege in retaining various documents," and she had decided "not to honor" those claims.
The letter, which was released earlier this week, noted the White House and Biden's involvement in the Mar-a-Lago raid despite repeated denial from other White House officials.
