Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke recently announced that he would pause his campaign to recover from a recent medical diagnosis.

O'Rourke was diagnosed with an unspecified bacterial infection. Although he was already treated, he would take the time to recover at home.

The 2022 gubernatorial race in Texas is expected to be head-to-head as incumbent governor Greg Abbott will be challenged by O'Rourke, who has been a staunch critic of the former's actions in the state.

Beto O'Rourke Pauses Campaign to Recover From Bacterial Infection

According to ABC News, Beto O'Rourke announced earlier today that he would be clearing his campaign schedule shortly after he was diagnosed with an unspecified bacterial infection.

In a tweet shared on his official Twitter account, O'Rourke thanked the extraordinary team who tended to his needs at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

"After feeling ill on Friday, I went to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio where I was diagnosed with a bacterial infection. The extraordinary team there - from custodians to nurses and doctors - gave me excellent care and attention, including IV antibiotics and rest," the Democratic nominee said in a statement.

Although his symptoms have improved, the former Texas congressman decided to postpone his upcoming events to rest at his home in El Paso, Texas - promising his supporters to be back on the road once he is fully able.

Per KVUE Texas, Beto O'Rourke was supposed to be at three different events in the past weekend. He was scheduled to be present in Three Rivers, Goliad, and Corpus Christi for his 49-day campaign event, "A Drive for Texas." No official diagnosis was given at the time after members of his staff canceled the event.

As of this writing, no definite rescheduled dates are in place for his remaining campaign events in the Lone Star state. However, O'Rourke's team disclosed that he is planning to reschedule the events he had already missed.

In a statement, the Nueces County Democratic Party affirmed that their nominee Beto O'Rourke is still welcome to the Coastal Bend as soon as he can make it back after the illness.

Beto O'Rourke Takes a Jab on Greg Abbott's Abortion Ban Law

Earlier this week, O'Rourke launched his first national TV ad against Governor Greg Abbott, using the Texas abortion ban as a central point of his messaging.

"We all need to understand what the true cost of this decision is, this decision that Greg Abbott made a year ago to sign the most restrictive abortion law in the country, no exception for rape, no exception for incest," O'Rourke said in a recent statement.

Abbott's office reiterated that the state of Texas is a "pro-life state" and that they are taking significant action to protect the sanctity of life.
