Herschel Walker, Pro-Life Senate Candidate, Threatens to Sue Daily Beast After Outlet Reported He Paid for His Girlfriend's Abortion
NFL legend Herschel Walker is running for Senate in the state of Georgia as a Republican. He is running on a Pro-Life platform and claimed that there should be "no exception" for rape, incest, or the life of the mother. However, a recent Daily Beast report has revealed that the Republican candidate has supported at least one exception for abortion, which is himself.
A woman who dated the NFL legend talked to The Daily Beast, which did not reveal her name out of privacy concerns. According to the outlet, the woman told them that when they were dating in 2009, they conceived a child. However, the now-Pro-Life Republican urged her to get an abortion and she said that he even paid for it all.
Daily Beast: Woman Had Receipts of Herschel Walker Paying For Her Abortion
When Walker's ex-girlfriend talked to The Daily Beast, she brought some evidence to back up her claims. This includes a $575 receipt from the abortion clinic, as well as a bank deposit receipt that included an image of a signed $700 personal check from Walker. She also showed a "get well" card from Walker.
The woman also said that there was a $125 difference because she "ball-parked" the cost of an abortion at that time. She also added on other expenses, including recovery costs and travel costs.
A friend of the woman also corroborated the story with The Daily Beast. The close friend claimed to have stayed with the woman as she was recovering after the abortion procedure.
According to the woman's story, Walker was not yet married at that time, and he told her it would be more convenient for both of them if she terminated the pregnancy. He allegedly told her it was "not the right time" for him to have a child, and the feeling was mutual.
She then admitted that she did not know whether or not Walker regretted his decision to have the child aborted. The woman then pointed out her ex's hypocrisy, saying "We all deserve better."
Herschel Walker Suing The Daily Beast for Reporting on Abortion
Walker did not take the report too kindly. He released a response to the article and stated that it was a "flat-out lie." He remained defiant as he appeared on Hannity on Monday.
Walker told Fox News host Sean Hannity, "I never asked anyone to get an abortion. I never paid for an abortion, and it's a lie. And I'm going to continue to fight." He then suggested that the report was a "dishonest attack by his political opponents."
According to Politico, he called the article "slander," "defamatory" and "disgusting, gutter politics." The former NFL star then stated that he plans to sue the publication on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, his opponent, incumbent Georgia Senator and re-electionist Democrat Raphael Warnock had been targeting Walker's Pro-Life stance. According to NBC News, his latest ad focused on the abortion issue and targeted Walker. The ad also showed Walker talking about the need for a national abortion ban.
Even though Warnock is a Christian pastor himself, he has made his stance clear that he is in support of abortion rights.
