Family Remembers Wisconsin Girl, Skye Bleu Evans-Cowley
Skye Bleu Evans-Cowley's family is grieving as police look for the person responsible for the Wisconsin girl's death.
The community held a candlelight vigil Tuesday night near the girl's house to show support for her family. Her mother told her how sad it was.
"She's gone. I'll never get to hear, "Mommy, I love you more than the whole wide world. You're my best buddy.'"
Evans-Cowley's mother was in tears as she spoke to WBAY. Her daughter just celebrated her 5th birthday in June, and now they are preparing for her funeral. The girl's aunt is also devastated, claiming that she now must explain to her kids why their cousin is no longer here.
According to Green Bay police, a 911 call was made before 5 p.m. Monday regarding a 5-year-old girl who had been shot at a residence in Amy Street. She was reportedly taken to a hospital but did not make it. Her family said Skye was a fun, happy, and sassy girl.
"She was always a joy to be around. She would always do a silly smile. Like, 'Why you smiling like that? Why you smiling like that?' 'I don't know, 'cuz I'm happy, 'cuz I'm happy'," said her aunt, Lamika Evans.
The family noted that that smile is gone forever, and they will forever miss it.
Wisconsin Girl's Mom Calls for Justice
At the Tuesday night vigil, the Wisconsin girl's mother made her first public statement.
"I want answers. I want justice for my daughter... She's five years old. My five-year-old. If it was you, how would you feel? I've got questions. I want answers, and I want justice. Simple. If it's from the streets or the legal system," Kayla Evans told Local 5 News.
Kayla said she had already lost her mother and sister, so losing her daughter was unthinkable. During the vigil, she clutched her daughter's bag as they released balloons and yelled into the night sky, hoping the girl would realize how much she was loved.
