Another American tourist was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in a Mexico City apartment on the same day three other Americans died in a separate incident at a nearby Airbnb.

Daily Mail reported that Angelica Arce, 29, went to Mexico City with her siblings Marco and Andrea Arce to see the 2022 Mexico Grand Prix and a Formula 1 practice run on October 28.

The siblings returned to their apartment that night and felt sick the next day. Only Angelica and Andrea went to the doctor, who told them they were suffering from heat exhaustion.

They returned to the apartment, not knowing they had been exposed to carbon monoxide. When Marco woke up on October 30, he was horrified to discover that Angelica was dead.

Marco told KGTV 10News that he "lifted her hair, and she was purple." Marco and Andrea were hospitalized in Mexico City for four days to receive treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning. Their bereaved parents traveled from San Diego to Mexico City to assist in making arrangements to bring back Angelica's body to the United States.

Three Other Americans Died From Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Airbnb Apartment in Mexico City

That same day, Mexican authorities found Kandace Florence, 28, of Virginia, and Jordan Marshall, 28, and Courtez Hall, 33, both New Orleans residents, dead inside their rented Airbnb apartment in Mexico City.

The three American tourists came to the city to join the Day of the Dead festivities. WAVY reported that Florence told her boyfriend on the night of October 30 that she was not feeling well.

The phone call was suddenly cut, and he was unable to reconnect with her. So he reached out to the Airbnb host and asked if they could visit the apartment for a wellness check.

According to the city attorney general's office, the three American tourists died from carbon monoxide poisoning. In a Tuesday statement, the office said it started looking into the deaths of the three foreigners in the Airbnb apartment in La Rosita, Cuajimalpa de Morelos, on October 30.

CNN reported that security officers at a residential complex called for assistance after smelling an intense gas stench in the apartment. The bodies of a woman and two men were discovered when local authorities arrived. Paramedics at the scene reportedly declared them dead.

The attorney general's office has ordered investigations. Hall and Marshall were both teachers in New Orleans, while Florence operated a candlelight business. 

Airbnb Responds to the Incident that Killed Four American Tourists

In a statement sent to Daily Mail, a spokesperson for Airbnb said the unit listing had been removed, and any future bookings had been canceled as part of the probe into the tragic incident.

"This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones as they grieve such an unimaginable loss," the spokesperson noted.

The spokesperson said their "priority right now was supporting those impacted as the authorities investigate what happened."

"We stand ready to assist with their inquiries however we can," the spokesperson added. Meanwhile, Daily Mail reported that it was unable to confirm if the apartment that Angelica died in was also listed on Airbnb.
