FIFA World Cup: More Pain for Lionel Messi as Argentina Loses to Saudi Arabia, Relief for Mexico After Draw
The World Cup continued onto its second day, and it was not a very good day for Lionel Messi and Argentina as Saudi Arabia scored the biggest upset of the tournament yet.
France had a shaky start but went on to take apart the Australians in a very dominating 4-1 victory, while the second day saw two draws as Denmark vs. Tunisia and Mexico vs. Poland all ended in scoreless draws. However, the biggest surprise of the night came when Saudi Arabia stunned Lionel Messi and Argentina lost at 2-1.
Lionel Messi Mocked for Choking Against Saudi Arabia
According to CNN, this was a historic win for the Saudis as the team only had an 8.7% chance of victory over the mighty Argentinians. However, this was also a humiliating defeat for the South American side as Argentina came into the tournament as heavy favorites to win it all. Now, all that hype is in question following the defeat.
Because of the defeat, Messi got mocked all over the internet. According to the Daily Mail, many called the Argentinian soccer megastar the greatest choke artist of all time, as this may be his last World Cup before retiring and he has never even won one.
The Paris St. Germaine star was called out left and right for choking again, and questioned whether he can really deliver Argentina to the promised World Cup title for the first time in decades. Another called the game a "Disaster class" from Messi.

While soccer is a team sport, and the Saudis managed to score two goals in just eight minutes to seal their shocking upset victory, it was Messi who bore the brunt of the mocking and criticisms.
One of the loudest Messi critics following his defeat was English rapper and YouTube star KSI who posted a photo of a disheveled Messi lookalike with the caption "Messi RN."
The post divided fans, as some were not happy with the comparison, while some became hysterical and joined in on the Messi mocking, according to The Mirror.
Mexico vs. Poland Match Ends in Scoreless Draw
Day 2 of the World Cup had two scoreless draws, though one was a huge sigh of relief after their Group C rivals, Argentina, lost that big one to Saudi Arabia.
According to Al Jazeera, the match ended in a stalemate after Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa managed to make a very important second-half penalty save against Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.
Mexico actually dominated the match, and they were boosted as the Mexican fans outnumbered and outcheered their Polish counterparts. However, the absence of star Raul Jimenez was surely felt as Mexico struggled to score a goal throughout the entire game.
With 20 minutes to go, Jimenez was finally brought back in to try and score something, but the Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, who is returning from a long injury, failed to even get a shot on the goal. Because of the draw, Saudi Arabia is now the surprising leader in Group C.
