Here are the Mega Millions winning numbers for the drawing on Friday night, when the jackpot reached a massive $333 million after nobody won the top prize in the past 14 weeks. 

According to Indy Star, the Mega Millions winning numbers for Friday night or December 2 drawing were 1, 21, 36, 46, 52, and the Mega Ball was 16. The Megaplier was 3X. Friday's Mega Millions jackpot was an estimated $333 million with a cash option of $175.8 million.

The Mega Millions website noted that a lottery player only needs to match one number in Mega Millions to win a prize. However, that number must be the Mega Ball worth $2. The next drawing will happen at 11 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The jackpot prize will keep increasing until someone wins the grand prize.

Virginia Man Wins $1 Million After He Got 5 Mega Millions Winning Numbers

A man from Salem, Virginia managed to take home $1 million for buying a Mega Millions ticket for November 1 drawing. According to WDBJ, Garland Hare got five numbers correctly, which he picked using a combination of family birthdays and anniversaries.

He got the Mega Millions winning numbers 5, 9, 15, 16, and 17, but the one he did not match was the Mega Ball number 25. Hare bought the winning ticket in Salem Mini Mart at West Main Street, which received a $10,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket. 

It was reported that he almost missed winning entirely, as he did not know that he had won because he had left the country for a trip overseas before the drawing and only learned about it when he returned.

Hare, who works in computer programming, said aside from paying bills, he plans to do more traveling with his winnings. According to Virginia Lottery, Hare was one of only seven individuals across the country who correctly got five of the six numbers and won $1 million during that drawing.

The Mega Millions jackpot prize for that drawing was $87 million. Several states reveal the names of the lottery winners for the sake of transparency.

Tips to Increase Chances of Winning the Mega Millions Jackpot

There is always a highly slim chance of winning the Mega Millions jackpot. However, Born2Invest listed several ways one could increase the odds of winning.

The outlet admits there is really no surefire way to win, but there are strategies that may slightly increase your chances of winning, like making a lottery pool with other people. 

It can also inject more fun into the lottery and increase your chances of winning by combining your resources and agreeing to split any jackpot.

Another piece of advice is to pick unpopular numbers. Picking numbers people usually do not go for could increase your chances of becoming the sole winner. 

Fox News noted that lottery players can also increase their overall chances of winning by purchasing more tickets. The outlet added that a lottery player should go after smaller jackpots as the "bigger the jackpot, the lower your chances of hitting it."
