Meghan Markle and Prince Harry received an "anti-racism" award from the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation during the Ripple of Hope Gala in New York City on Tuesday night.

The Ripple of Hope event highlights leaders who have shown an unwavering commitment to social change and worked to protect and advance equity, justice, and human rights. This year's honorees have reportedly prioritized "equity, inclusivity, and sustainability in the workplace and the world."

According to TMZ, former award recipients include Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at the event in a convoy of three SUVs, accompanied by five security guards who helped them out of their vehicle and into the Hilton Midtown Hotel, Daily Mail reported.

In a statement, Harry and Meghan said they were honored to receive the RFK Ripple of Hope Award this year.

"Our hope with this award is to inspire a new generation of leadership in the arts, where diverse up and coming talent have a platform to have their voices heard and their stories told," the couple said.

"The values of RFK Foundation and The Archewell Foundation are aligned in our shared belief of courage over fear, and love over hate. Together we know that a ripple of hope can turn into a wave of change," they added.

Last month, Robert F. Kennedy's daughter and the president of the foundation, Kerry Kennedy, revealed that she will honor Meghan and Harry for their "heroic" stance against the "structural racism" of the royal family.

Kennedy previously said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had always stood out for their willingness to speak up and "change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world."

Meghan and Harry received the "anti-racism" award a day after Netflix dropped the trailer for its docuseries "Harry & Meghan." In the trailer, the Duke of Sussex calls out the "hierarchy of the family," alleging that they leaked stories about his life with Meghan to support the family's "war" against his wife.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Oprah Interview

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed in a March 2020 Oprah Winfrey interview that a member of the royal family had concerns about the skin color of their son, Archie, before he was born.

In discussing the incident, Meghan claimed it was a "discriminatory effort" not to make her son a prince. The Duchess of Sussex noted that there was also a conversation about how Archie will not be given security and a royal title. 

She said there were several conversations regarding the matter, adding that Prince Harry had relayed the content of those conversations to her. Meghan also said life as a royal had made her suicidal, adding that she was ashamed to admit it to Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex noted that at one point, she asked a senior royal about the possibility of seeking inpatient care. She was told it would not be possible as it "wouldn't be good for the institution."

Meghan further noted that the British tabloids were "vicious" to her, making racist comments about her. She also said the royal family had failed to correct the false narrative around her - about her "dive-like behavior" and how "she had bullied her staff."

On the other hand, Prince Harry opened up about his relationship with his father. He noted that King Charles III was not taking his phone calls before and even asked him to put things into writing when he and his wife were weighing taking a step back from their roles as senior royals.

King Charles III Statement on Skin Tone of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Son

A book claimed that King Charles III was the royal who asked about the skin color of Archie of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It was journalist Christopher Andersen who wrote the book titled "Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan." 

The book claimed that Prince Charles and Camilla were discussing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when Charles allegedly asked his wife what the children "will look like."

The book added that an insider said Camilla seemed "somewhat taken aback" and responded that children will be "absolutely gorgeous." Charles then reportedly lowered his voice and asked: "I mean, what do you think their children's complexion might be?"

Reacting to the skin tone issue, a spokesperson for Charles earlier told The Post that it was a "fiction" that's not worthy of further comment. Another insider noted that Charles told Prince Harry he was being "overly sensitive about the matter."

Prince William allegedly called the skin tone issue "tactless." However, he claimed it was not a sign of racism within the family. William publicly maintained his statement, telling reporters they were "very much not a racist family."
