Authorities have carried out a search at a Florida storage facility at the behest of former President Donald Trump's lawyers. There, they found two more classified documents that will be part of the FBI's Trump documents probe.

Two individuals familiar with the documents spoke to NBC News and told them that the storage unit was found near Trump's Florida home, Mar-a-Lago. They were immediately turned over to the FBI.

The discovery of these two new classified items came almost four months after the FBI executed a subpoena in May, searching Mar-a-Lago for any documents Trump may have taken home with him. They found over 100 documents, 37 of which have "classified" markings, and even some with the highest classification marking.

Trump tried to stop the FBI from reviewing the seized documents, and initially succeeded in slowing down the process when Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon appointed a special master to review the documents. However, a higher court recently halted the review, which meant that the FBI can now go and see what documents Trump took from the White House when he left office last year.

Trump Lawyers Hired Outside Firm to Search for Classified Documents

This new revelation about the two unreturned classified documents contradicts the previous claims of Trump attorneys that all documents with classified markings have been returned.

Anonymous sources told the Washington Post that the Trump lawyers brought in an outside team to search the former president's other properties. This led to the discovery that not all the classified documents Trump took home have been returned.

The nature of these documents is not yet clear, but they came from a storage unit that held items from a northern Virginia office used by Trump staffers. The contents of that office were moved to the Florida storage unit shortly after he left office.

Donald Trump and His Legal Team Maintain That They Are Cooperating With the FBI

It has already been acknowledged for months that the Justice Department had not yet recovered all classified documents from Donald Trump, according to the Associated Press.

The Trump legal team has been facing pressure after a federal judge told them to "demonstrate its full compliance with the subpoena." This led to the Trump team bringing in the outside team to search for the missing documents. The searched areas included the Trump Golf Club in n Bedminster, New Jersey, as well as Trump Tower in New York City.

Following the return of the two classified items, a Trump spokesperson stated that the former president and his legal team "continue to be cooperative and transparent." However, the spokesperson also hit back at the government, stating that this was an "unprecedented, illegal, and unwarranted attack against President Trump and his family by the weaponized Department of Justice."

The classified documents previously recovered from Trump have been said to have sensitive information regarding national secrets, and he kept them in his basement at Mar-a-Lago, which is considered an unsecured location.
