Elon Musk has reportedly turned Twitter headquarters into a "hotel" for employees, prompting San Francisco authorities to launch a probe as a possible building code violation.

BBC has been provided with photos of Twitter office space being converted into bedrooms, with one image showing the room with a double bed, wardrobe, and slippers.

New Twitter CEO Elon Musk has been staying at the headquarters ever since he took over the firm, according to a former Twitter worker.

San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection has confirmed that it is investigating possible violations after a complaint.

Musk responded on the matter, saying that the city was attacking companies "for providing beds to tired employees."

Musk earlier tweeted that he would work and sleep in the office "until the org is fixed" in a now-deleted tweet.

One conference room has an alarm clock and a picture over a made-up bed.

One former worker said that the set-up looks "like a hotel room," saying that Musk regularly sleeps at the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco.

Twitter Headquarters Turned into 'Hotel'

Another photo shared with Forbes showed bright orange carpeting, a wooden bedside table, and what appears to be a queen bed.

One source said that there was no announcement or context given to employees. It was then presumed that the beds are for remaining "hardcore" staffers so that they could stay overnight at the office.

The source noted that it was another "unspoken sign of disrespect." They added that there was no discussion about the matter and that the beds just "showed up."

The Forbes source added that there were four-to-eight-bedroom pods per flood, adding that those looked comfortable.

Meanwhile, another source said that several rooms were on a floor that is largely empty and that people are already "putting in late at night," which the source said makes sense to an extent.

Musk has earlier claimed that he has slept at company properties before. In 2018, he once tweeted about "sleeping at a factory," referring to a Tesla factory.

A Department of Building Inspection official said that they need to ensure that the building is being used as intended.

A recent firing in Twitter has occurred with the firing of the social media platform's general counsel James A. Baker over his alleged involvement in censoring the New York Post's story on Hunter Biden's laptop.

Musk tweeted the exit of Bake due to concerns about his "possible role in suppression of information important to the public dialogue."

The Twitter CEO said that he questioned Baker before his firing regarding the events surrounding the laptop story. Musk said that the lawyer's explanation was "unconvincing."

Baker was a general counsel at the Federal Bureau of Investigation before joining Twitter. He was also a prominent figure in the FBI's investigation into possible Russian interference during Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.

Baker was reportedly found being under criminal investigation for reportedly leaking materials to reporters after he left the FBI in 2018.
